What we’re looking for
Golden Software is seeking a senior C++ software developer who can build high-quality desktop product features, work effectively in a mature Windows codebase, and help improve Surfer’s customer-facing workflows, performance, and extensibility.
This person should be a strong product-minded engineer: senior enough to make good architecture decisions, pragmatic enough to work safely in mature code, and collaborative enough to partner with Product Managers and other developers on cross-codebase work.
Skills & Responsibilities:
You have the skills to excel in this role if you...
- Have 8+ years of professional software development experience, including senior-level work building commercial or production-grade C++ software.
- Have experience with Windows desktop application development.
- Can work effectively in large, mature, deeply layered codebases.
- Bring strong debugging, root-cause analysis, architecture, and implementation skills.
- Have demonstrated experience designing or implementing extensible, interoperable libraries, APIs, and scripting/automation hooks.
- Communicate clearly and constructively in a remote development environment.
- Collaborate comfortably across product management, engineering, and shared code boundaries.
- Care deeply about software quality, maintainability, scalability, and direct customer impact.
Tools & experience:
- Fluency in modern C++ (our codebase uses C++20) on Windows.
- Visual Studio, Git, Bitbucket, Jira, Slack, or comparable development and code review tooling.
- Familiarity with MFC, ATL, Windows API, .NET, or WPF is helpful, but not required.
- 3D, geospatial visualization, and real-time rendering experience is a plus (e.g., OpenGL or comparable graphics APIs, shaders, geometry, or rendering performance).
- Domain experience in GIS, mapping, gridding, contouring, or scientific visualization is a plus.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted developer workflows or integration protocols is a plus.
Great candidates don’t always check every box. We may consider equivalent skills and experience in place of specific requirements.
What you’ll do
As a senior developer, you will help build and improve product functionality that enables customers to complete complex scientific visualization and analysis workflows more efficiently.
You will succeed in this role by:
- Delivering high-quality, maintainable full-stack C++ features across backend engines and user interfaces.
- Reducing friction in priority customer workflows to improve retention and time to value.
- Improving performance and scalability for workflows handling large datasets.
- Expanding Surfer’s customer-facing automation, scripting, and system extensibility.
- Collaborating with Product Managers during discovery to assess feasibility, effort, risk, and technical trade-offs.
- Working across shared components and subsystems when feature work crosses codebase boundaries.
- Participating actively in peer code reviews, architecture discussions, sprint planning, and technical debt reduction.
The salary range for this role is $150,000 – $210,000, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications. We are committed to providing a competitive compensation package that reflects the value this role brings to the business.
This is a full-time, remote position, with optional team events held in the Golden, CO area several times per year. Travel for in-person team and company meetings is required 1–4 times per year.
