Job Description SummaryThe Regional Customer Application Engineer (RCAE) is the primary technical
interface with New Unit Customers, in Latin America, during the pre-ITO
(pre-Inquiry-To-Order) phase (i.e. prior to a firm proposal). This person is
responsible at the individual opportunity level for influencing and positioning GE Vernova (GEV) with Customers and for defining the best technical configuration and strategy for firm proposals. Further, the RCAE is expected to interface as required at varying levels with others in Americas ITR (Inquiry-To-Receipt) such as Application Engineers (AEs) and Project Engineers (PEs), as well as within the regional pre-ITO team, to assure the GEV solution remains aligned to Customer expectations. Given the technical/commercial hybrid nature of the role, the RCAE position provides those with a strong background in gas turbine or thermal power generation an opportunity to grow in the project development and commercial spaces; likewise, those with a strong commercial and project development background will have an opportunity to increase depth in gas turbine and combined cycle technology.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Own pre-ITO technical deliverables for all opportunities from assigned account managers, regardless of complexity.  For complex opportunities, may utilize support from broader Proposal & Project Engineering (PPE) team.
  • Gather from Customers and other sources information about each opportunity and the Customer’s development plan, strategy, and evaluation method.
  • Inform Customers about GEV technology and solutions through in-person and online presentations.
  • Use thermodynamic modeling software to model Simple Cycle (SC), Combined Cycle (CC), Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS), and Combined Heat & Power (CHP) gas power plants. These solutions will vary from fully custom to partial re-use to full re-use.
  • When appropriate, work cross-functionally to conduct configuration optimization balancing customer value with GEV enterprise value.
  • Conduct economic life-cycle evaluation analysis of GEV and competitor solutions for projects prior to formal Request For Proposal (RFP).
  • Work closely with New Unit Sales, within the broader Heavy Duty Plant Engineering (HDPE), and with Product Line Management teams to ensure optimum GE competitiveness.
  • Proactively assess product fit and define an influencing strategy to best position GEV prior to firm bid. This will often involve applying standard solutions.  Products include Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine (HDGT), Aeroderivative (aero) Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, Generator, and Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG).
  • Work closely with New Unit Sales to establish a pre-ITO level of technical information flow to develop gas power projects.
  • Respond to Customer requests for technical information prior to RFP, including providing transmission interconnect data and emissions data for permitting.
  • Define and communicate to the ITO proposal team the project background, optimum configuration, necessary approvals obtained, and bid strategy.
  • Gather competitive data and support post win and post mortem analyses.
  • Analyze and report back to the business regional Customer needs and trends.
  • Provide Customer feedback to internal functions (i.e. Systems Architects, Solutioning & Execution CoE, etc) regarding the preferred configuration designs and strategy.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Experience in sales, commercial operations, or engineering with a strong technical and/or commercial background in thermal power generation.
  • Proficient English speaker.

Eligible Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly (up to ~20%) over a wide region for Customer meetings or events.

Desired Characteristics

  • Advanced Engineering degree.
  • Good Portuguese, Spanish, & English written and verbal communication skills, one-on-one and with large audiences.
  • Extensive technical and commercial experience within power generation industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GEV Gas Power products and technology (Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine and/or aeroderivatives, Steam Turbine, CC, CHP, Hydrogen), processes, and organizational structure.
  • Strong external focus, with ability to assess impact of price and performance decisions on Customers, market, and investors.
  • Proven analytical skill set and strategic mindset.  Systems thinker.
  • Knowledgeable of power generation industry trends and competition.
  • Strong grasp of power plant thermodynamics and modeling.
  • Project economic modeling knowledge and experience.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work in a regional and global team.
  • Enthusiastically practices Lean.
