Ameresco currently has an opening for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Federal & Utility Solutions Engineering Team to develop and implement power generation, distributed energy, and microgrid projects. This position is based in the Western US with a preference for candidates in the Phoenix or San Diego Metro Areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support project development and design efforts for power generation and distributed energy resource projects, especially those including solar PV, energy storage, spinning generation, and microgrids.

  • Coordinate visits to customer project sites to investigate and gather relevant project information and data.

  • Conduct engineering analysis to design preliminary layouts, model energy production, and develop preliminary cost estimates.

  • Prepare conceptual and detailed engineering design and bid documents including narrative scopes of work, drawings, and specifications.

  • Provide oversight, management, and technical review of third-party engineer-of-record’s (EOR) drawings and specifications related to microgrid architecture and control, solar PV, energy storage, and other DERs to ensure that designs meet applicable codes and standards, as well as performance requirements.

  • Support the evaluation of construction subcontractor bids and equipment vendor proposals to determine best value selections optimized for performance, pricing, and warranty.

  • Prepare written content for technical proposals and reports. Present reports defining project progress, problems and solutions.

  • Provide engineering support throughout all project phases (proposal, development, construction, commissioning, and operation).

  • Cultivate and maintain positive business relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, and customers.

  • Work with site Project Manager on ongoing contact, communication, and coordination with Ameresco customers and subcontractors in the design and construction phases, including project status updates and remedies for delays or other concerns.

  • Travel as required.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or another engineering discipline from a four-year accredited college or university.

  • Minimum 5 years of prior experience in an engineering or project development role.

  • Ability to review confidential US security information.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with technologies such as solar PV, battery energy storage systems, cogeneration, microgrids, and power systems preferred.

  • Experience with electrical power system studies

  • Experience using solar PV modeling software preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical presentation skills.

  • Licensure or educational progress toward Professional Engineer (PE).

  • Valid driver’s license issued by state of residence and in good standing.
