About the Role
The Athletic is looking for a passionate, analytical audience strategist with an eye for great content to join our team as an Editorial Manager, Programming. In this role, you’ll be a leader on the strategy and distribution of content across various channels including, but not limited to, The Athletic home feed, New York Times surfaces, email newsletters and push alerts. This role will collaborate across The Athletic’s newsroom and manage a team of programmers to oversee daily decision-making and the team’s long term vision and goals.
This is a remote-based position in the United States or Canada.
Responsibilities
- Shape The Athletic’s near-term and long-term programming strategy across channels to drive subscribers, content views and retainment.
- Lead The Athletic’s day-to-day communication and promotion on various New York Times surfaces, as well as for major tentpole events.
- Manage projects side-by-side with product managers to evolve and enhance the home feed and overall experience for subscribers.
- Collaborate with editorial leadership to improve tools and educate the newsroom on best practices in publishing and promoting content
- Oversee daily push alert decision-making on local and national stories, as well as analyze key metrics that shape programming’s overall strategy.
- Analyze metrics to inform curation strategy across platforms and sports, on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
- Serve as an audience lead for multi-platform campaigns around priority content and tentpole events.
- Lead discussions with editors from across the newsroom to proactively identify high-performing content and provide impactful feedback on content performance.
- ••Collaborate with leaders across email, marketing and design to align voice and brand across all platforms.
Requirements
- 7-10 years experience in journalism/media, content programming, digital marketing, or similar.
- Experience managing a direct report or a team of direct reports
- Expert ability to develop strategies that result in audience growth and engagement.
- Experience overseeing home page curation and product development.
- Data-driven and analytical; ability to think critically around metrics.
- Experience working cross-functionally in a large, complex organization.
- Strong communicator and can disseminate information clearly and concisely to various stakeholder groups.
- Interest and knowledge across a range of different sports.
- Supreme attention to detail and highly organized under deadlines.

The annual base salary range for this role is $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
