Lead design for seller identity management at Square, focusing on updates, compliance, and exploring AI tools to enhance user experience.
The summary above was generated by AI
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
Square's Identity team plays a foundational role in the Square ecosystem by scaling trust, compliance, and growth across an increasingly complex network of sellers.
As a Senior Product Designer, you'll lead design across the most critical aspects of seller identity-how sellers update legal information, transfer ownership, manage permissions, and stay compliant over time. You'll play a key role in shaping experiences that make identity updates faster, safer, and more equitable, while also exploring AI-powered tools that increase automation, reduce friction, and improve transparency. Your work will empower sellers to maintain a secure, compliant presence on Square, while supporting the platform's expansion across new products, geographies, and business types.
You'll collaborate with a cross-functional team of product managers, engineers, and data scientists to build intuitive, resilient systems that support sellers from their first interaction through long-term growth. Your impact will be felt across every part of the ecosystem: improving onboarding, enabling new product eligibility, supporting complex business models, and safeguarding platform integrity.
This role is open for remote work.
You Will
  • Own the end-to-end identity management experience, shaping how sellers represent, verify, and manage their business and personal identity within Square.
  • Define product vision and roadmap in close partnership with cross-functional teams, turning regulatory, technical, and user needs into clear design strategy.
  • Champion design excellence and team growth through mentorship and thoughtful critique.
  • Promote experimentation and innovation in process and tooling, bringing a forward-thinking, data-informed, and customer-first lens to everything you build.

You Have
  • 8+ years of relevant Product design experience-bonus if you have experience designing for identity, authentication, compliance, or permissions systems in highly regulated industries.
  • A portfolio demonstrating exceptional UX craft, vision, systems design, and prototyping skills
  • Strong systems thinking and interaction design skills, with a portfolio demonstrating complex product challenges.
  • Experience working on platform teams or internal tools that scale across product surfaces.
  • Excellent storytelling skills, and a 'show don't tell' approach to aligning teams around a shared vision
  • A desire to continuously learn and grow, particularly in applying AI and emerging technologies to enhance workflow efficiency and improve team processes
