As a Senior Product Designer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance the Discord user experience through visual design, wireframes, and prototypes, ensuring high-quality execution and strategic alignment with product goals.
The summary above was generated by AI

Discord is used by over 200 million people every month for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does on our platform: play video games. Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games.

Our work on Core Product focuses on improving and simplifying the foundations of the Discord experience at large. This could be streamlining how users customize their settings, to the way they express themselves over text, voice, and video. This position would begin on our “Diamond” team, which is focused on our existing foundations of the app. Instead of usually focusing on net-new features, this position will be focused on taking our more antiquated and heavily used surfaces and updating/refocusing them on our most key user needs. This could encapsulate anything from upgrading our voice messages to incorporate faster speeds and transcriptions, or revisiting our media viewers across platforms, to even redesigning our entire Settings platform.

As a product designer, you'll be involved with the full end-to-end product development process, from brainstorming to launch. You'll use a balance of strategic thinking, product principles, systems design, and strong visual design skills to iterate and innovate on the Discord product. If you love craft and are interested in joining a passionate team of designers that are designing features that will be used by millions of people across the world, come join us.

What You'll Be Doing

  • You will embed within a product squad and partner with engineers, product managers, researchers, and data scientists to oversee the user experience of a product from concept to launch — and then continue to improve it after release.
  • You will create wire-frames, beautiful mockups, amazing prototypes, and help implement your designs to pixel perfection. You will also quality check all of your work as it it built, ensuring it reflects your vision perfectly.
  • You will own the bar for craft, execution and production quality for your immediate product team, and proactively identify opportunities to uplevel the quality of your work in production as you playtest.
  • You will actively influence your team’s roadmap with a deep understanding of the product space, acting as a thought leader with your XFN leads in defining the “how” of the product strategy.
  • You will present your designs to the team and the greater organization to build consensus and drive alignment around your work
  • You will identify gaps or improvements for our design system and contribute UX and design patterns that address design debt, and are adopted across the design organization.
  • You will be an active peer and participant in your organization’s design team and culture, sharing/contributing often and proactively in critiques and in general channels to encourage a culture of open feedback and active support.

What you should have

  • 5+ years of experience developing and leading design on central end-to-end consumer products across a variety of platforms (mobile, desktop, console, etc). Additionally, you have been the design lead for a squad, feature, initiative, and team and are comfortable making design decisions, leading discussion, and communicating out to the wider organization.
  • A passion for video games and gaming experiences.
  • You have expert-level experience with Figma and some high-fidelity prototyping tool (ex: Protopie, Framer, Origami, etc).
  • Strong product thinking and strategic vision, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into intuitive user experiences. Adept at articulating the rationale behind design decisions and their alignment with broader product goals.
  • Mastery of design craft, including typography, color theory, layout principles, and interaction design. Committed to pixel-perfect execution and have a keen eye for subtle details that enhance user experience. You have a high level of skill at crafting high quality visual designs and have an eye for creating delight in every product experience.
  • Compelling storytelling skills across multiple mediums with consistent experience pitching and influencing design decisions across peers, immediate team members and organization leadership.
  • Strong, pro-active communication skills, forming ideas and presenting them to your cross-functional team to develop product strategy and roadmaps.
  • A desire to deeply understand the "why" before defining the "how" and use it to develop a strategic product perspective, and vision. Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, with the ability to leverage quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions and measure the impact of design changes on key metrics.
  • Experience working with, and actively contributing to a design system with components of sub-system languages.
