About the role:
As a Privacy & Cybersecurity Lawyer at Aura, you will be at the forefront of ensuring that our products, services, and business operations comply with global privacy and data security laws and regulations. You will be an integral part of the legal team, advising on complex data protection matters, developing privacy policies, and helping shape the company’s compliance strategies to address emerging privacy risks and regulatory requirements. Day to Day:
●Provide expert legal advice on privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity laws and regulations applicable to the company’s operations, products, and services.
●Advise internal stakeholders on global privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and other relevant data protection frameworks.
●Review and negotiate contracts and agreements (e.g., vendor agreements, NDAs) from a data privacy and security perspective.
●Oversee the creation, implementation, and maintenance of privacy policies, risk assessments, security protocols and internal training.
●Support product teams by offering legal guidance on privacy-by-design principles, ensuring privacy considerations are integrated into product development and service offerings.
●Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and risk assessments, advising on mitigation strategies.
●Monitor and stay up-to-date with evolving global privacy laws, regulations, and trends in the cybersecurity space.
●Work closely with other legal, compliance, and security teams to ensure a holistic approach to privacy and security risk management.
●Manage and respond to data subject access requests (DSARs) and other privacy-related inquiries.
●Support internal and external investigations and audits related to data security and privacy policies and practices.
● Lead the company’s privacy and security compliance programs, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
What you bring to the table:
●J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
●6-10 years of legal experience with a focus on privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity law.
●Deep knowledge of privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and other national/international privacy and security regulations.
●Experience advising technology or cybersecurity companies on legal, regulatory, and compliance matters related to data protection and security.
●Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts into clear, actionable recommendations for non-legal stakeholders.
●A proactive and collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams.
●Certification in privacy law (CIPP, CIPM, etc.) is a plus but not required.

Pay range for this position is $140,000 - $200,000 but may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location.
