About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Principal Researcher, Teamwork Lab to report to the Head of the Teamwork Lab and lead our industry research program and elevate Atlassian's voice in the future of work conversation. In this highly visible and strategic role, you will design and drive research initiatives that inform our annual State of Teams and AI Collaboration reports, as well as a portfolio of smaller, high-impact industry studies.
You will partner closely with marketing, communications, sales enablement, and creative teams to translate research into compelling narratives, evidence-based talks, and data-driven content for a global audience. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, collaborating across functions to align research with business priorities and amplify Atlassian's impact.
What You'll Do
  • Lead Thought Leadership Research: Design and execute industry research programs on the future of work, AI at work, distributed collaboration, and emerging workplace technologies.
  • Survey Design & Methodology: Develop innovative, rigorous survey instruments and research methodologies that yield actionable insights for marketing and communications.
  • Narrative Development: Partner with marketing, comms, and sales enablement to craft data-driven stories, executive presentations, and evidence-based thought leadership.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with creative, design, and writing teams to bring research insights to life through reports, infographics, and multimedia content.
  • Strategic Influence: Align research initiatives with Atlassian's business goals and industry positioning, ensuring our insights drive value for customers and the business.
  • Innovation: Identify emerging trends and new research opportunities, pushing the boundaries of how we understand and communicate the future of work.

About You
  • Experience: 7+ years in research, insights roles, with a strong track record of leading industry-facing research for marketing or communications.
  • Expertise: Deep knowledge of future of work, AI in the workplace, distributed work, and collaboration technologies.
  • Survey & Research Design: Advanced skills in survey design, research methodology, and translating complex findings into clear, actionable insights.
  • Strategic & Creative: Proven ability to think strategically and creatively-connecting data to big-picture narratives and business impact.
  • Storytelling: Exceptional communicator, able to craft compelling stories from data for executive, customer, and public audiences.
  • Collaboration: Experience working cross-functionally with marketing, comms, sales enablement, and creative teams.
  • Quantitative Acumen: Strong understanding of quantitative methods, but focused on research design and narrative alignment rather than hands-on data analysis.
  • AI Fluency: Demonstrated knowledge of AI trends and their impact on work and collaboration.
  • Autonomy: Comfortable operating independently and driving projects from concept to delivery in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Compensation
At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $182,700 - $238,525
Zone B: $164,700 - $215,025
Zone C: $152,100 - $198,575
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
