Why this Role Matters:

At Greenbox Capital, we help small businesses thrive by giving them fast, accessible funding. As a Senior Data Platform Engineer, you’ll play a key role in modernizing our origination ecosystem by building scalable, high-performance platform services that power critical business workflows. You’ll drive results in platform transformation, API development, and system integration, and your work will directly support our growth, operational efficiency, and ability to innovate.

This role reports to VP of Tech and operates as an individual contributor.

What Success Looks Like:

Here’s how your time might break down (actual time can shift depending on business needs):

  • Platform Modernization & Legacy Replacement – Reducing reliance on legacy systems through scalable service development
  • API & Integration Delivery – Building secure, reliable APIs and supporting internal/external integrations
  • Platform Reliability & Engineering Excellence – Driving code quality, observability, and scalable architecture

How you’ll be measured:

Platform Modernization & Architecture Execution

  • Deliver scalable services and components that successfully replace our .NET legacy platform to Python on Databricks

API & Integration Engineering

  • Design and implement secure, maintainable APIs and integrations that support internal systems and third-party platforms

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Leadership

  • Partner effectively with engineering, data, and product teams while influencing architecture, standards, and delivery practices

You’re a Strong Fit if You:

  • Demonstrate the ability to design and build scalable backend systems in complex, data-intensive environments
  • Have a strong ownership mindset and can operate autonomously in ambiguous technical situations
  • Collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and data teams in a distributed environment
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Bring a pragmatic approach to building vs. buying solutions and can justify trade-offs
  • Are naturally curious, adaptable, and thrive in a fast-moving, evolving organization like Greenbox

What You’ve Done Before:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • 5+ years building scalable backend services and APIs using Python
  • Proven experience contributing to or leading platform modernization or migration initiatives
  • Experience working in cloud-native environments (preferably Azure)
  • Experience designing and operating production-grade REST APIs
  • Background in regulated industries such as FinTech, Banking, or Healthcare is a plus

Tools and Expertise You’ll Bring:

  • Advanced Python (service development, testing, packaging, maintainable design)
  • Must have proven experience and skills working with Databricks, Spark, and data platform ecosystems
  • REST API design, authentication, versioning, and error handling best practices
  • Frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask
  • Azure cloud services (compute, storage, networking, identity, monitoring, API management)
  • CI/CD pipelines, version control, and tooling (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
  • DevOps fundamentals including deployment pipelines and secrets management
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous processing
  • Nice-to-have: Vue.js or modern frontend frameworks, Streamlit, Terraform/Bicep, AI-enabled application patterns, and familiarity with .NET/C#

What to Expect from Our Interview Process

We believe in a respectful, efficient, and transparent hiring experience. Here’s what you can expect:

Step 1: Initial Phone Screen (30 minutes)
A brief conversation with a recruiter to learn more about your background, interests, and alignment with the role.

Step 4: Final Interview or Leadership Chat (1 hour)

Step 5: Offer & Background Check
If it’s a mutual fit, we’ll move forward with background check and present a competitive offer.
