About OWL

Old Well Labs is a financial intelligence startup in South End, Charlotte building the institutional investment industry’s next generation of analytics tools. Our platform centralizes billions of data points on fund managers globally and leverages AI to bring clarity to complex data.

About the Role

We are hiring our first Platform Engineer to establish platform engineering as a core capability at OWL. This is a foundational hire who will build and operate the infrastructure, tooling, and practices that power our engineering teams. You will partner with the VP of Engineering, as well as product and data teams, to shape platform direction while implementing reusable modules, access frameworks, and observability patterns that enable self-service. Our DevOps model is service-driven: we build systems and tools that allow engineers to move faster with autonomy, rather than doing their work for them.

What You’ll Do
  • Build for Self-Service: Create reusable Terraform modules, deployment scripts, and CI/CD workflows that developers can operate independently.

  • Core Infrastructure Ownership: Operate and evolve our AWS environment to ensure scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.

  • Security and Compliance: Prepare for SOC 2 by implementing least-privilege access and embedding compliance into infrastructure. Experience with ISO 27001 is also relevant.

  • Access and Cost Management: Administer AWS IAM and database access, and partner with leadership to attribute and optimize AWS costs.

  • Observability and Analytics: Strengthen monitoring and product analytics with Datadog and PostHog so teams have actionable insights by default.

Tech Stack
  • Languages and Frameworks: Python (Flask, FastAPI, data pipelines), React

  • Infrastructure and Cloud: AWS (ECS, Fargate, EC2, RDS, Elasticache, VPC, Route53, S3, Step Functions), Docker, Terraform

  • CI/CD and Quality: GitHub with GitHub Workflows, Sonar

  • Databases: Postgres, SQL Server

  • Monitoring and Analytics: Datadog, PostHog

Who We Are Looking For
  • 6+ years in platform, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering

  • Hands-on expertise with AWS, Terraform, Docker, ECS or Fargate

  • Familiarity with Python-based systems (Flask, FastAPI, data pipelines) and React-based web apps

  • Strong background with observability, CI/CD, and code quality tooling

  • Experience preparing for or participating in a SOC 2 or ISO 27001 audit

Bonus
  • Experience administering AWS IAM at scale

  • Experience with database administration, ideally Postgres

  • Background in application and infrastructure security

Position Location

Charlotte. We are hybrid (in office Tuesday–Thursday).

Compensation
  • Competitive annual salary + target equity

Work Authorization

At this time, OWL is not able to sponsor employment visas. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Benefits
  • 100% medical, dental and vision insurance coverage for you

  • 401k

  • Flexible PTO

  • Parental Leave

  • Located in the heart of South End

  • Bagel Thursdays
