UTA seeks a Senior Platform Engineer to drive the design, automation, and scalability of the platforms that power our engineering services. In this role, you will provide technical leadership on cloud infrastructure, ensuring our systems are built for resiliency, security, and long-term growth. You will architect and deliver AWS-based infrastructure with Terraform, define platform standards, and enable development teams to ship quickly and safely. You will also help expand our ChatOps ecosystem, bridging development workflows and infrastructure automation, while mentoring peers and shaping engineering best practices.
The salary range for this role is $160,000 to $180,000 commensurate with experience and skills.
What You Will Do
Platform Architecture & Infrastructure
- Lead the architecture and automation of cloud infrastructure in AWS using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code principles
- Define and maintain platform modules that set security, compliance, and operational baselines for services
- Drive the migration of existing Azure infrastructure and applications to AWS with minimal downtime and maximum resiliency
- Design and manage secure, scalable infrastructure components including databases (RDS/Postgres), serverless (Lambdas), container platforms (ECS/EKS), authentication (IAM/SSO), and networking
- Establish operational patterns for monitoring, logging, and incident response across distributed environments
Cloud Operations & Automation
- Champion the use of self-service tooling and ChatOps, enabling teams to manage infrastructure and deployments through Slack-based workflows
- Implement robust CI/CD pipelines and release practices that integrate with GitHub Actions, Terraform, and other automation tools
- Maintain familiarity with leading cloud monitoring and observability tools—including Datadog, AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus, Grafana, and similar platforms—to ensure effective infrastructure health monitoring, alerting, and incident management across multi-cloud environments
- Lead efforts in cost optimization, performance tuning, and scaling strategies across multiple environments
Service Management & Deployments
- Architect, build, and maintain automation solutions for deploying applications and services using trunk-based GitHub repositories and modern CI/CD tooling
- Own end-to-end deployment workflows, ensuring that feature branches are reliably deployed to isolated environments and production deployments occur automatically on merges to main
- Develop, support, and improve ChatOps integrations, enabling developers to manage deployments, rollback, and monitor services directly from Slack or other chat platforms
- Lead the design and implementation of "Make New App" vending machine style automations within Slack, enabling self-service provisioning of new applications with standardized infrastructure, security, monitoring, and deployment pipelines.
- Provide ongoing support for deployment pipelines, collaborating with application teams to resolve issues and enhance developer experience and deployment reliability
- Ensure all automation solutions align with platform security, compliance, and operational standards, partnering closely with Operations and Security teams
Engineering Excellence & Leadership
- Establish and enforce engineering standards for IaC, container management, security configurations, and operational practices
- Mentor and coach engineers, sharing best practices in platform automation, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps
- Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions across teams
Collaboration & Strategic Alignment
- Partner closely with application teams, product, and security functions to ensure infrastructure aligns with organizational and business goals
- Partner closely with Operations and Security teams to ensure compliance, resilience, and operational excellence across all environments
- Evaluate emerging cloud and platform technologies, guiding adoption strategies to maintain modern, efficient, and secure infrastructure
- Shape the long-term platform vision, balancing developer experience, system reliability, and organizational scalability
What You Will Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
- 7+ years in platform, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering, with at least 3+ years in a senior or technical leadership capacity
- Proven expertise with AWS services (ECS, EKS, Lambda, RDS/Postgres, API Gateway, S3, IAM)
- Strong hands-on experience with Terraform, including building and maintaining reusable modules and operating in monorepo environments
- Experience designing, operating, and migrating enterprise-grade platforms with a focus on reliability, scalability, and security
- Practical knowledge of modern CI/CD tooling (e.g., GitHub Actions, Terraform Cloud, or similar)
- Familiarity with Azure and cloud-to-cloud migrations is a plus.
- Demonstrated success in creating or enhancing self-service developer platforms and ChatOps automations
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with an ability to influence across technical and business teams
- Ability to lead while staying technically hands-on when needed.
