Introduction to Team

Expedia Technology teams partner with our Product teams to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.
This Senior Engineering Manager role is a part of the Search & Recommendations Platform organization within our Product & Technology division. The Search & Recommendations Platform provides reusable, high-quality capabilities that power search and recommendations experiences across Expedia Group brands and surfaces. In this role, you will be a technical leader for the Austin-based accelerator team, accountable for adoption and end‑to‑end impact, including successfully integrating platform capabilities into experiences, running experiments, and landing outcomes with client/brand/product partners.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and develop high-performing engineering teams to deliver complex, scalable technical solutions across multiple domains.

  • Drive architecture, system design (including low-level design), API design, and data modeling efforts to support product and platform evolution.

  • Foster a culture of operational excellence, ensuring reliable and secure delivery and maintenance of services and applications.

  • Champion the integration and safe operation of AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve business and customer outcomes.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, UX, and other engineering teams to align technical delivery with organizational goals.

  • Mentor engineers, promote technical growth, and establish best practices to enable team success and technical innovation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience.

  • 3+ years of people management experience.

  • Demonstrated experience owning and delivering technical solutions at the service, multi-service, or domain level.

  • Proven technical aptitude in system and API design, with experience leading engineering teams.

  • Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and operating systems at scale with a focus on reliability, performance, and security.

  • Strong track record driving architectural decisions and technical strategies across multiple teams or domains.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of data-driven decision making and continuous improvement.

  • Experience integrating and operating AI/ML-enabled solutions that drive measurable impact.

  • Advanced proficiency in Kotlin/Java programming.

  • Prior experience in search & recommendations or similar domain.

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $184,500.00 to $258,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $295,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
