We're proud of what we've built — and we're just getting started. Read our Culture Manual and learn more about how we work.

About the Team

Clients & Accounts Platform (CAP) owns the core client and account models at the heart of our product — the foundation every other team builds on top of. We build the uncompromising, simple, fully digital in-app onboarding experience Wealthsimple is known for, guiding clients from sign-up through funded accounts in minutes, not days, and almost always with no human intervention. On the backend, our platform defines and enforces the compliance and product requirements every team relies on; on the frontend, we orchestrate the onboarding modules — KYC, identity verification, agreement signing, and more — that show up across nearly every Wealthsimple product.

We're a full-stack team, and we're both platform-facing (other engineering teams are our customers) and product-facing (clients are). Our services are critical tier — when they go down, most of Wealthsimple stops working — so we hold ourselves to five nines of uptime while still shipping and iterating at tech-company speed. It's demanding work, and one of the highest-impact places to build at Wealthsimple.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Manager to lead Accounts Engineering, one of the teams inside CAP. Accounts Engineering builds new account types (Business Accounts, RESPs, and more), defines the core account configurations that unlock new product features, and evolves the account domain model that the rest of the company builds against. You'll manage a team of roughly 8 full-stack developers.

This team moves fast. There is always more demand than capacity — no shortage of ideas, product asks, or backlog. Your job is to turn that pressure into a high-velocity, high-quality team that ships work the company can rely on for years.

In this role you'll have the opportunity to:
  • Build and lead a high-velocity, high-quality full-stack engineering team, including hiring, coaching, performance managing, and promoting senior ICs

  • Orchestrate and drive alignment on the team's architectural north star, and make sure every project ladders up to it

  • Partner with Product and Data Science to define the team's roadmap and resource projects — and make the hard prioritization calls when the list of things we want to do is (as always) larger than what we can actually do

  • Review, critique, and contribute to project technical planning — and stay close enough to the work to drive projects through to launch without surprises

  • Own your team's operational excellence: reliability, on-call health, SLAs, and the day-to-day quality of what we ship

  • Keep the team on the leading edge of AI-assisted engineering — across planning, code review, incident response, and anywhere else it can compound — and keep pushing that edge, treating "how much faster AI can make us" as a question we never stop asking

What we're looking for:
  • 4+ years managing high-performance software development teams through multiple successful product launches, including coaching and growing senior and staff ICs

  • Strong full-stack technical background — system design chops are essential, and front-end depth is a real plus. You lead from the front technically: you can sit in a design review and push back with substance, and you can spot what's missing in a project plan before the team does

  • A "ship it" mentality: you set a high bar for pace, iteration, and quality, and you build a team culture around it — including having the hard conversations when someone isn't meeting the bar

  • A track record of building teams from the ground up — hiring, performance managing, and promoting

  • Comfort operating under real pressure: you treat "we don't have enough capacity" as a strategy problem, not a complaint, and you make strong, opinionated calls when there's more to do than time to do it

  • Metrics-oriented: you don't speculate, you prove. You expect the same of the engineers you lead

  • An AI-first mindset — you use AI as a core part of how you and your team work, not as a side experiment

  • A strong communicator who makes their team's work visible across the organization and manages upward and across effectively — negotiating priorities with peer managers, setting expectations with stakeholders, and making sure leadership understands the trade-offs behind the roadmap

Nice-to-have's:
  • Experience in the fintech or banking industry

  • Experience managing both platform teams (where other engineering teams are your customers) and product teams (where clients are)

  • Hands-on experience with Rails, Kotlin, and/or React

  • Deep experience across both backend and frontend development

  • Comfortable writing your own SQL to answer your own questions about the business
