Who We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking a Senior Design leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, embraces ambiguity, and is motivated by measurable results. In this role, you’ll lead a team of talented designers and collaborate closely with partners across product, engineering, research, and data science.

You’ll shape the vision and execution of key growth initiatives, promote a culture of experimentation, and ensure the team delivers high-quality, user-centered design work that drives Yahoo Mail’s success.

Responsibilities:
As a design leader at Yahoo, you’ll shape product vision, mentor teams, and ensure high-quality craft across all user touchpoints. You will:

  • Lead and grow a team of designers focused on user acquisition, retention, and engagement

  • Partner with product managers, engineers, researchers, and analysts to define and drive the strategy for user acquisition, activation, retention, and monetization

  • Encourage creative, data-informed problem solving and rapid iteration

  • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and continuously improving team culture

  • Provide thoughtful, actionable feedback to elevate design quality and product thinking

  • Balance short-term experimentation with long-term user and brand goals

  • Advocate for the user at every stage of product development

  • Collaborate with leadership across design, product and engineering to prioritize opportunities and allocate resources

  • Translate user research, data, and market trends into effective design strategies

  • Deliver polished, intuitive experiences—consumer-grade quality is our standard, even in complex environments

About You:
You’ll likely thrive in this role if you:

  • Lead by example with hands-on collaboration, empathy, and a bias toward action

  • Communicate clearly and effectively across teams and all levels of the organization

  • Are curious about user behavior and motivated by solving real-world problems

  • Excel at building and leading high-performing, diverse teams

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in product design, including 2+ years managing/coaching designers

  • A portfolio showcasing high-quality, well-crafted product experiences

  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, experimentation methods (e.g., A/B testing), and product development processes

  • Experience designing for web and/or mobile platforms

  • Proficiency with Figma (or similar tools) and design systems

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance user needs and business goals

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills

  • Bonus: Experience in growth, onboarding, funnel optimization, or lifecycle design

  • Bonus: Interest or experience in content design, motion, or front-end technologies

The compensation for this position ranges from $143,625.00 - $299,375.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions. Our comprehensive benefits include healthcare, a great 401k, backup childcare, education stipends and much (much) more.
