Responsibilities:

  • Audit Quality & Risk Management (AQRM) within NORM, is responsible for monitoring the firm’s audit practice by executing such activities as the internal inspection program, CPAB inspection, CPA provincial inspections, CSQM 1 monitoring and other ad hoc projects.  

  • AQRM works closely with the National Professional Standards Group (NPSG) in assisting in the creation and monitoring of policies, tools, guidance, and training.  

  • This position assists and reports to the Audit Quality and Risk Management Leader.

  • The Manager or Senior Manager will work closely with other members of AQRM with planning and execute the internal inspection program (including CSQM1), as well as the CPAB and CPA Canada Provincial inspections. 

  • Assist in the facilitation of the Firm’s annual PCAOB inspection along with any other regulatory exams such as those conducted by the Department of Labor and the Canadian Public Accountability Board 

  • Prepare communications for senior executives related to regulatory inspection audit quality matters 

  • Execution of formal functional monitoring activities 

  • Assist in the review of the Firm’s PCAOB and other regulatory inspection reports as well as the preparation of action plans and remediation responses to those inspection reports 

  • Perform file reviews to ensure that file is compliant with Canadian Auditing Standards and RSM Audit methodology 

  • Coach and support engagement teams going through external file inspections 

  • Develop and deliver continuing professional education courses 

  • Perform other monitoring and quality initiatives as directed by the Quality Control Inquiry Committee, NORM Leader, Audit Quality and Risk Leader. 

  • Responsible for other various assignments that arise through incident response or international audit quality and regulatory compliance 

  • Participate in the annual evaluation of the System of Quality Management to determine if it is achieving its objectives 

  • Assist with planning and execution of the internal inspection program as it relates to PCAOB engagements 

  • Contribute to the performance of Root Cause Analysis on audit quality issues identified through annual evaluation, regulatory reviews, internal monitoring and other monitoring programs and activities of the firm. 

  • Prepare and present status updates for leadership 

  • Enhance the talent experience as a career advisor and mentor 

  • Other ad hoc projects as required 

 

Required Qualifications:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree (required) 

  • CPA license in principal place of business (required) 

TECHNICAL/SOFT SKILLS (Required unless noted) 

  • Working knowledge of CAS, IFRS and ASPE 

  • Working knowledge of PCAOB and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards 

  • Strong oral and written communications skills  

  • Robust performance history and demonstration of excellence 

  • Strong social and people skills and ability to adapt quickly to change 

  • Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely, verbally, and orally to diverse audiences across the firm and to outside professional contacts 

  • Ability to develop and maintain applicable professional and internal contacts, resources, and networks 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion with respect to internal information 

  • Exhibit high attention to detail and strong proofreading skills 

EXPERIENCE 

  • 8+ years’ of post qualification experience (required) 

LEADERSHIP SKILLS 

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills for multiple and or complex projects (required) 

  • Collaborates with all levels to achieve results (required) 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to generate high quality deliverables (required) 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively (required) 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with audit tools such as CaseWare and IDEA 

  • CPAB or CPA Provincial institute or PCAOB inspection experience

  • Able to adapt quickly to changes in the firm and regulatory environment

  • Ability to respond positively to changing circumstances, seek and implement change to drive business improvement

  • Experience auditing internal controls in a large professional services firm or similar environment would be an asset

  • Ability to supervise, direct, and review the results of inspections, projects, and assignments

  • Ability to lead by understanding team dynamics

  • Ability to support, affect, and implement change

  • SEC audit engagement or PCAOB inspection experience

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $141,400 - $283,800

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
