The Team

Our Analytics Engineering team plays a critical role in Upstart's mission by transforming raw data into trustworthy, well-modeled, and scalable foundations that power decisions across the company. We’re seeking a Senior Manager to lead a team of Analytics Engineers who build and maintain the data infrastructure that fuels product innovation, operational excellence, and strategic insight.

You’ll manage a team of high-performing engineers and be responsible for the technical direction, team growth, and impact of Analytics Engineering across multiple domains. • Set Technical Vision: Define and execute a strategic roadmap for Analytics Engineering, shaping architecture and modeling patterns that support trusted, scalable data assets used across domains.
  • Enable Product and Business Impact: Ensure delivery of high-quality data pipelines, models, and tools that improve operational efficiency, enhance decision-making, and support product growth.
  • Foster Cross-Functional Partnerships: Collaborate with leaders in Analytics, Product, Engineering, Machine Learning and Finance to align on priorities, manage dependencies, and influence roadmaps.
  • Uphold and Elevate Standards: Establish and enforce best practices in engineering, testing, documentation, observability, and stakeholder communication. Lead by example in code and technical reviews.

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum requirements:
    • 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, or Business Intelligence, with at least 3 years in people management.
    • Strong technical background in SQL and dbt, with working knowledge of Airflow, cloud data warehouses (e.g., Databricks), and CI/CD practices.
    • Experience designing data models, pipelines, and frameworks that support scalability and performance.
    • Proven ability to lead project execution and drive outcomes across ambiguous, cross-functional environments.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
    • Track record of developing engineers, setting clear expectations, and calibrating performance against defined competencies.
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Experience in high-growth, consumer-tech or fintech environments.
    • Advanced degree in a quantitative or technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Math, Engineering).
    • Strong intuition for business impact and the role data plays in accelerating outcomes.
    • Familiarity with upstream/downstream systems (e.g., APIs, product telemetry, ML workflows) and how analytics fits into broader data ecosystems.
