The Senior Liquidity Risk Analyst manages risk oversight activities, develops assessments and recommendations, and supervises junior analysts to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Overview
The Senior Risk Analyst I within the second line of defense, contributes to the design and execution of oversight activities support to either the:
- Treasury Risk Management Oversight ("TRMO") team, responsible for interest rate, market, or liquidity risk) OR;
- Finance & Regulatory Reporting Oversight ("FRRO") team, responsible for oversight activities primarily related to capital management, planning and forecasting, capital interpretations, capital calculations, Resolution Planning and FED and FDIC regulatory reporting.
Position partners directly with first-line teams to assess adequacy of risk controls and compliance with regulatory standards.
Primary Responsibilities- Lead second-line reviews of complex or high-impact topics within TRMO or FRRO.
- Develop independent assessments and recommendations based on data, policies, and regulatory expectations.
- Draft formal documentation of review conclusions and present findings to team leads and management.
- Support thematic reviews and policy interpretation efforts.
- Identify opportunities to enhance oversight methodologies and tools.
- Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
- Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
- Supports oversight of either TRMO subjects (market risk, interest rate risk, liquidity risk) or FRRO subjects (capital planning, capital calculations, resolution planning, regulatory reporting).
- Serves as subject matter contributor in key oversight areas.
- May lead cross-functional initiatives or serve as point of contact for risk domain topics.
May guide the work of junior analysts on specific projects.
Education and Experience Required- Bachelor’s degree in quantitative or analytical field such as Finance, Accounting, or Economics and a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience OR an equivalent combination of education and at least eight years of relevant professional experience.
- Advanced knowledge of financial principles and regulatory and compliance issues related to the banking industry.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Superior attention to detail and process orientation.
- Results-oriented/delivery focused; ability to deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.
- Ability to apply critical thinking skills
- Experience in financial reporting, audit, or similar field preferred.
- Experience with advanced analytical tools such as SAS, VBA, SQL, etc.
