Dandy is transforming the massive and antiquated dental industry—an industry worth over $200B. Backed by some of the world’s leading venture capital firms, we’re on an ambitious mission to simplify and modernize every function of the dental practice through technology. As we expand our reach globally, Dandy is building the operating system for dental offices around the world—empowering clinicians and their teams with technology, innovation, and world-class support to achieve more for their practices, their people, and their patients.
Role OverviewThis role blends hands-on system development with opportunities to grow into broader technical ownership.
You will work closely with printers, printheads, inks, and test systems to develop and improve real-world performance, while also contributing to system design decisions, architecture, and scaling strategies over time.
The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with hardware and experiments, and is interested in expanding their impact beyond execution into system-level thinking and technical leadership.
Key Responsibilities1. Inkjet System DevelopmentDesign and develop inkjet printing systems from concept through production
Integrate industrial printheads (Seiko, Epson, Xaar, Ricoh, Kyocera)
Own system-level performance including jetting stability, placement accuracy, and reliability
Develop and optimize drive waveforms for stable drop formation
Diagnose and resolve jetting issues including satellites, misfires, cross-talk, and air ingestion
Optimize drop velocity, volume consistency, and firing reliability
Understand and troubleshoot print quality issues (banding, missing jets, color inconsistency, placement errors) and trace root causes across waveform, ink, hardware, and process variables
Define ink operating windows (viscosity, surface tension, temperature)
Collaborate with ink chemistry teams to align formulation with hardware constraints
Evaluate real-system ink behavior and long-term stability
Integrate and troubleshoot across fluid systems, motion systems, and electronics
Debug issues end-to-end without reliance on siloed teams
Improve robustness and repeatability of system performance
Design and execute structured experiments (DOE)
Develop test methods for jetting reliability, print quality, and durability
Analyze data to drive engineering decisions and system improvements
Support transition from R&D to manufacturing
Define specifications, tolerances, and quality control procedures
Improve machine-to-machine consistency and field reliability
5–10+ years of hands-on inkjet system development experience
Experience with industrial printheads (e.g., Seiko, Epson, Xaar, Ricoh, Kyocera)
Strong understanding of drop formation physics and waveform tuning
Practical experience with fluid systems (pressure control, degassing, filtration)
Demonstrated experience building and debugging real inkjet systems
Experience in functional or materials printing (ceramics, electronics, biomaterials)
Familiarity with color science and calibration workflows (Lab, ΔE, ICC profiles)
Experience with multi-head alignment and system calibration
Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams
Independently diagnose and resolve jetting and system-level issues
Rapidly iterate and improve system performance under real-world constraints
Deliver stable, repeatable printing performance across machines
Contribute to systems that successfully transition into production
This role is best suited for engineers who prefer hands-on problem solving, rapid iteration, and working directly with physical systems. Candidates with primarily theoretical or simulation-based experience may not be a strong fit.
