Who are we?

Cohere is the leading security-first enterprise AI company. We build cutting-edge foundation AI models and end-to-end products that are designed to solve real-world business problems.

We’re training and deploying frontier models for enterprises who are building AI systems. We believe that our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI and we are looking for folks that want to be part of that.

We obsess over what we build. Each one of us is responsible for contributing to increasing the capabilities of our models and the value they drive for our customers. Cohere is a team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, who are all passionate about their craft.

We are a global technology company co-headquartered in Toronto and San Francisco, with key offices in London, New York City, Montreal, Seoul, Germany and Paris. Join us!

Why This Role?

We’re hiring a Senior People Business Partner to help scale Cohere through a major phase of growth.

This is a strategic People leadership role partnering closely with our GTM organization and senior leaders inside one of the world’s leading AI companies.

At Cohere, Senior PBPs operate as trusted advisors to leadership teams and influential partners to the broader People organization. You’ll support leaders across organizational design, leadership effectiveness, talent strategy, succession planning, and organizational health in a fast-scaling, globally distributed environment.

We’re still evolving parts of our People infrastructure and operating model, so this is a strong fit for someone energized by ambiguity, building, and improving ways of working in real time.

You’ll thrive here if you:
  • Operate with ownership — strong judgment, accountability, and low ego

  • Balance standards + empathy — supportive while maintaining high expectations

  • Enjoy ambiguity — energized by fast-moving, evolving environments

  • Love solving problems — especially complex organizational and leadership challenges

  • Move fluidly — between strategy and hands-on execution

  • Influence effectively — through strong communication and credibility

  • Enjoy developing others — including mentoring and coaching PBPs

Areas you’ll typically support:
  • Org design — scaling teams and organizational structures

  • Leadership coaching — supporting senior technical leaders

  • Talent strategy — performance, retention, and succession planning

  • Team effectiveness — organizational health and leadership capability

  • Employee experience — onboarding, retention, and engagement

  • People team scale — helping evolve the broader People function

We’re likely to be a strong fit if you:
  • Operate at senior scope — Director-equivalent BP experience, Head of People experience at a smaller company, or similar IC7+ scope

  • Know technical environments — experience partnering with Sales, Marketing or similar organizations

  • Understand hypergrowth — experience operating in startup, scale-up, or rapidly scaling environments

  • Have global exposure — supported distributed organizations across multiple countries or regions

  • Communicate exceptionally well — especially in written, asynchronous environments

  • Build trust effectively — influence through credibility, judgment, and strong relationships over time

Note: This role can be based remotely or from one of our office locations - there is no minimum in-office requirement. We care most about hiring exceptional people regardless of location, though please check the location listed on the posting for guidance around the core time zone or working hours alignment expected for the role.

Cohere is committed to fair and transparent pay practices. The salary range listed for this role reflects the expected base compensation. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. $130,000 - $240,000 USD

Full-Time Employees at Cohere enjoy these Perks:
  • A weekly lunch stipend of $75/£75 or equivalent in your local currency for lunch.

  • Full health and dental benefits, including a separate budget for mental health.

  • RRSP matching, 401K, Pension Scheme.

  • 100% Parental Leave top-up for up to 6 months, for either parent.

  • Annual enrichment benefits:

Arts & culture, fitness/wellness, quality time, and a workspace improvement credit.

Education & learning stipend for conferences, courses, and coaching.

  • 6 weeks of paid vacation (30 working days!)

  • Budget for traveling to other offices if you are remote, plus an annual company offsite.

How and Where We Work:
  • Cohere is remote-friendly. We have offices in Toronto, San Francisco, New York City, London, Paris, Montreal, and more coming soon.

  • For those in the office: a daily lunch program, plenty of snacks, and regular community and social events.

  • For those not near an office: a co-working benefit so you can work alongside others in your city.

  • Everyone receives a $500 home office stipend to set up your workspace properly.

If any of the above doesn’t line up exactly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply.

We strive to create an inclusive work environment for all; we welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities. Should you require any accommodations during the recruitment process, please submit an Accommodations Request Form, and we will work together to meet your needs.
