About Empowerly

Empowerly is a fast-growing ed-tech company on a mission to empower students to become the most successful version of themselves. Our platform combines expert college counseling with proprietary tools like the Empowerly Score™, offering families a 360° view of their child’s college readiness; across academics, essays, and extracurriculars.

We’ve raised $30 million from top-tier investors including Goodwater Capital, Conductive Ventures, FJ Labs, Scrum Ventures, Translink Capital, Azure Capital Partners, and Spero Ventures.

As a founder-led company, we’ve grown through SEO-driven performance marketing and are now scaling a diversified GTM motion across Sales, Events, B2C, Partnerships, and Business Development. We’re targeting 150–200%+ revenue growth in the coming phase and this role will be critical in making that leap.

We operate as a remote-first company, with teammates across the U.S. and engineers in Brazil, united by our passion to make high-quality college counseling accessible to every student, regardless of background or location.

About the Team

We move with a founder’s mindset: urgency, empathy, and integrity. The engineering team is distributed across the U.S. and Brazil, partnering closely with product, design, and data teams. Our tech stack was built two to three years ago; we’re now evolving it to incorporate AI/ML at scale. We thrive in lean, nimble, VC-backed startup environments (Series A to C) where decisions are made fast, aligned quickly, and tied directly to revenue growth.

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to design, build, and evolve Empowerly’s next-generation ed-tech platform. You’ll work across the stack, with strong emphasis in engineering best practices, delivered with speed and urgency and play a central role in embedding AI and ML capabilities into our applications.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, understands the dynamics of scaling a founder-led startup, and knows how to use technology and data to unlock growth levers.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the complete software development lifecycle, including concept, design, build, testing, release, and maintenance of our software applications.
  • Develop high-quality software design and architecture with an emphasis on performance, scalability, and security.
  • Specialize in front-end development using ReactJS and related frameworks, ensuring a seamless user experience across various platforms.
  • Incorporate AI algorithms and machine learning models into web-based applications to provide intelligent, data-driven features.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of designers, developers, and product managers to bring innovative solutions and products to life.
  • Review, debug, and validate code, and perform testing for validation and verification.
  • Document development phases, monitor systems, and ensure the alignment of application design with business goals.
  • Collaborate with engineers to embed algorithms and models into production applications (e.g., recommendation engines, essay analysis, readiness scoring) and bring the AI/ML capabilities to the team
  • Partner with product, data, and design teams to ship features that impact revenue, retention, and student success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or closely related field).
  • Minimum 5+ years experience as a Full Stack Engineer or equivalent.
  • Expertise in ReactJS, TypeScript, and modern front-end frameworks.
  • Experience designing and building scalable, secure back-end systems (Node.js, Python, or Rails).
  • Solid grounding in AI/ML concepts, with hands-on experience integrating models into web applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, detail orientation, and the ability to balance speed with quality.

Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s degree in AI, Machine Learning, or related field.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and Infrastructure-as-Code.
  • Experience in VC Backed Series B to D, VC-backed, founder-led startups.

Ideal Hire Profile

  • You know how to challenge assumptions constructively and align fast once a decision is made.
  • You live in AI and understand how to make it useful in production systems.
  • You care deeply about UI/UX, Product, and Data, not just code.
  • You embody our values by leading with humility and building bridges across disciplines and culture
  • You operate with urgency, empathy, and integrity.
  • You believe in Empowerly’s mission to expand access to college counseling.
  • You thrive in lean, nimble, fast-paced environments.
  • Your work is driven by the goal of shaping product and engineering outcomes that influence revenue growth and student outcomes

This is a rare opportunity to shape the growth trajectory of a mission-driven, venture-backed company. As our Full Stack Software Engineer, you will be part of an experienced engineering team..

If you're energized by the idea of turning insights into action, partnering across teams, and helping us expand access to college counseling for families everywhere, we’d love to hear from you.
