About Encore

EncorEstate Plans empowers trusted advisors with the highest quality estate planning service so clients complete and fund estate plans that protect what matters most.

Built for advisors, Encore combines modern technology, professional support, and human oversight to keep advisors at the center of the estate planning process and ensure plans are completed and funded as intended, without practicing law.

We’re a small, fast-moving team focused on real customer impact, thoughtful product design, and leveraging the latest advances in AI-assisted development.

Role Summary

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who loves building products, solving problems, and creating clarity in complex systems.

You’ll work directly with the CTO and a small, collaborative team to design, build, and evolve software used by financial advisors every day.

This role combines hands-on development with technical leadership, product ownership, and continuous improvement of our engineering practices.

How We Work

We’re a small team, and ownership matters more than titles.

Everyone contributes where needed. That might mean helping with QA, troubleshooting production issues, improving internal processes, or supporting a teammate. We care more about solving problems than protecting job descriptions.

The people who thrive at Encore are humble, curious, collaborative, and comfortable with ambiguity. They take initiative, enjoy learning, and are excited to make a visible impact on the business.

What you’ll do (e.g., Responsibilities)

Build what matters

Design and implement product features end-to-end, from concept through production, with a focus on usability, reliability, and quality.

Lead through ownership

Drive technical decisions, identify risks early, and create clarity when requirements are evolving or incomplete.

Move fast with AI

Use modern AI development tools to accelerate coding, testing, research, and prototyping. Help shape how AI improves both our product and engineering workflows.

Own outcomes

Partner closely with Product and the broader team to understand customer needs and deliver measurable business impact.

Raise the bar

Support other engineers through code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing. Help establish practical engineering standards that balance quality with speed.

Improve the system

Continuously improve architecture, tooling, testing, observability, and developer experience so we can ship confidently and efficiently.

Learn and adapt

Stay current on emerging technologies and help the team adopt tools and practices that create real value.

We’re Likely a Great Fit If You…
  • Have 8+ years of professional software development experience
  • Have experience in a startup, small-team, or entrepreneurial environment where ownership, initiative, and adaptability were expected (strongly preferred)
  • Have significant experience shipping and maintaining production software
  • Have owned meaningful features, systems, or technical initiatives end-to-end
  • Enjoy solving ambiguous problems and creating clarity where none exists
  • Care deeply about simplicity, maintainability, and thoughtful engineering
  • Use AI development tools as part of your daily workflow
  • Communicate clearly and collaborate well across engineering, product, and the broader business
  • Think beyond your immediate responsibilities and proactively identify opportunities for improvement
  • Are comfortable balancing long-term technical health with short-term business needs
  • Thrive in small teams where ownership, flexibility, and initiative are expected
Some Fine Print
  • Salary range: $160,000–$180,000, depending on experience
  • Competitive benefits
  • Fully remote within the U.S.
  • Primarily Pacific Time working hours
  • Tech stack: React, Mantine/Tailwind, Java/Kotlin, and Postgres
  • Reports directly to the CTO
