911 is the backbone of American public safety…but, for too long, the professionals that dedicate their lives to answering our calls have been let down by the technology that serves them. Our mission is to change that.
We aim to ensure that every emergency receives a perfect response; a bold vision requires bold action from our team, working hand-in-hand with the professionals we serve.
Since the public launch of our first public safety product in the fall of 2021, our technology has helped streamline millions of 911 calls in communities around the country. We’ve revolutionized what’s possible in emergency response by applying cutting-edge AI to the most critical challenges facing first responders. Our partners span 49 states and collectively protect more than 90 million people.
Backed by more than $130 million in funding led from investors like General Catalyst, Andreessen Horowitz, and First Round Capital, we're scaling rapidly to become a core component of emergency calls nationwide, driving the future of emergency response toward a safer, more agile system.
At Prepared, you’re not simply part of a team — you’re a key force in a mission that truly matters. Your contributions here will shape the future of emergency services, playing a vital role in creating a safer, more connected world.
About this RoleWe’re hiring a senior-level engineer to join our new UX Core team — a group focused on building the infrastructure, systems, and standards that empower product teams to deliver world-class user experiences. As one of the first hires on the UX Core team, you’ll be a key partner in shaping how we build, scale, and deliver exceptional front-end systems that others will build on.
This role is for someone who’s equal parts engineer and systems thinker — someone who sees UX as a shared responsibility and believes front-end excellence requires operational rigor, not just polish. You’ll partner closely with design, engineering, and platform teams to evolve our front-end architecture, scale our design system, and level up how we build for performance, accessibility, and consistency across every surface.
If you’re energized by creating the foundations others build on, enjoy working across disciplines, and love taking something ambiguous and turning it into something others can depend on — you’ll thrive here.
What you’ll do:Architect and scale the foundations of our front-end stack — from reusable component systems to cross-cutting concerns like performance, a11y, theming, and responsiveness.
Drive operational excellence in how we deliver UX — building the workflows, standards, and tooling that enable high-quality product development at scale.
Partner across disciplines with design, product, and platform engineers to solve complex problems and ship cohesive, reliable user experiences.
Influence technical direction with Prepared Frontend, mentoring other engineers and collaborating on long-term strategy and roadmap.
Enable and empower product teams through documentation, onboarding support, and contribution tooling that lowers the barrier to quality work.
Has 5+ years of experience working on modern front-end applications, with deep fluency in React, TypeScript, CSS architecture, and component-based design.
Understands the tradeoffs and challenges of scaling design systems in complex product environments.
Has a track record of cross-functional collaboration, and elevating team-wide standards.
Cares deeply about developer experience, accessibility, performance, and quality — and knows how to embed those values into workflows and systems.
Thrives in ambiguous, 0→1 environments and is comfortable setting vision, creating structure, and iterating in the open.
Experience working in or setting up monorepos, internal packages, or platform-level tooling.
Familiarity with Storybook, design tooling APIs, or internal component registries.
Contributions to platform teams, developer experience initiatives, or open-source libraries.
The base pay for this role is $180,000–$210,000 per year + company equity. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Prepared’s unlimited vacation program.
