What you will do

You'll be responsible for investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and resolving E&O and EPLI claims with and without litigation on a multistate basis.  With skills in detail orientation and analysis, you will interpret coverage and prepare coverage letters.  Consultation with supervisors on more complex coverage will occur as needed. This position requires strong claims handling acumen with an understanding of state laws and requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Duties require the ability to deal with complex issues involving large exposures in a multi state environment.
  • Initiate investigations, conduct direct handling of Errors and Omissions and Employment Practices Liability claims. Assign and direct attorneys and adjusters.
  • Analyze coverage and legal issues. Evaluate liability and damages both in the claim against the insured and in the underlying loss that precipitated the claim.
  • Establish timely, realistic reserves and settlement values.
  • Prepare file and other department or company mandated reports. Issue reservation of rights letters, excess advice letters and recommend disclaimers or voidance.
  • Negotiate settlements, maintain a current knowledge of applicable state law and court decisions. Interface with the Underwriters, H. O. Claim staff, insureds, claimants, attorneys and adjusters. Communicate developments in assigned states to staff via Supervisor/Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Conforms with all corporate policies and procedures.

What you need

  • Four year degree or JD preferred; or equivalent experience.
  • 4-8 years of claims experience demonstrating expertise in underlying coverages preferred.  
  • Broad background in litigated matters preferred.

Licensing

Required to obtain your license(s) as an adjuster in the state(s) in which you are assigned to adjust claims. Licensing must be obtained within the timeframe set forth by the Company and must be maintained as needed throughout your employment.


Salary range: $99,500-$140,000

The final salary to be paid and position within the internal salary range is reflective of the employee’s work experience, their geographic location, education, certification(s), scope and responsibilities in the role, and additional qualifications.
