About the Role

The Senior Engineering Manager is a key technical and people leader at Just Appraised. Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, this person will lead multiple teams working on critical parts of our platform — from backend systems and data infrastructure to product integrations and developer experience.

This is a hands-on leadership role with an emphasis on backend and infrastructure engineering. You’ll not only set direction and align teams to business goals, but also dive into technical discussions, contribute to design proposals, and code when it matters. You’ll be a force multiplier for both people and technology — someone who helps engineers grow while keeping the organization’s technical foundation strong, scalable, and reliable.

We’re looking for someone who balances strategic thinking with deep technical expertise — a leader who’s as comfortable executing on product vision, technical direction, while mentoring engineers and team leads.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Lead and manage multiple engineering teams composed of Software Engineers, and Team Leads.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship, helping engineers develop strong design, coding, and problem-solving skills.
  • Partner with Product and Design to define and execute roadmaps that deliver measurable business and customer outcomes.
  • Drive high standards in code quality, testing, documentation, and delivery practices.
  • Guide architectural decisions around scalability, performance, and maintainability across our backend and infrastructure systems.
  • Contribute to technical designs and occasionally write or review code, especially for complex or high-impact projects.
  • Champion continuous improvement in our engineering processes and developer experience.
  • Manage team health: set clear goals, run performance reviews, and support professional development and career progression.

  • Proven expertise in designing, building, and scaling backend services.
  • Hands-on experience in cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring, and system reliability engineering.
  • Proven ability to balance people leadership with technical contribution.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A bias for action, ownership, and mentorship — you lead by example and make those around you better.
