Who We Are

Imprint is reimagining co-branded credit cards & financial products to be smarter, more rewarding, and truly brand-first. We partner with companies like Crate & Barrel, Rakuten, Booking.com, H-E-B, Fetch, and Brooks Brothers to launch modern credit programs that deepen loyalty, unlock savings, and drive growth. Our platform combines advanced payments infrastructure, intelligent underwriting, and seamless UX to help brands offer powerful financial products—without becoming a bank.

Co-branded cards account for over $300 billion in U.S. annual spend—but most are still powered by legacy banks. Imprint is the modern alternative: flexible, tech-forward, and built for today’s consumer. Backed by Kleiner Perkins, Thrive Capital, and Khosla Ventures, we’re building a world-class team to redefine how people pay—and how brands grow. If you want to work fast, solve hard problems, and make a real impact, we’d love to meet you.

The Team

The Payments team operates the financial backbone of Imprint, owning the services that process and reconcile customer and partner payments across instruments like ACH, debit, bill pay, and checks. The team’s mandate spans money‑movement reliability, observability, and compliance, and it partners closely with Risk, Data, Finance, Compliance, and Product to deliver accurate, auditable outcomes. Current focus areas include improving the payment customer product experience, deepening integrations with our payment partners, and executing a roadmap of architectural improvements to meet the dramatically increasing needs of our company's scale.

The Role

We’re seeking an Engineering Manager to lead Payments through its next phase of scale and reliability. You will set strategy, grow and mentor a high‑performing team, and drive delivery of resilient payment flows and platform capabilities. You’ll partner with product and cross‑functional leaders to raise our bar on availability, correctness, and speed of change while meeting regulatory and audit requirements.

Location

Hybrid. This role is based in our New York or San Francisco office, with 2–3 in-office days per week as required by your manager. Preference for NY or SF office hubs for closer collaboration with engineering leadership.

What You’ll Do
  • Set and execute the technical and organizational strategy for Payments Engineering, balancing speed, scale, cost, and compliance.

  • Collaborate across cross-functional partners (Product, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Data) to define goals, sequencing, and tradeoffs.

  • Own delivery and operations of mission‑critical money‑movement services and jobs, with strong SLOs, runbooks, and on‑call quality.

  • Evolve monitoring and alerting around business outcomes and failure modes across payment domains and providers.

  • Lead architecture to simplify flows, improve auditability, and de‑risk migrations as we refactor legacy paths.

  • Lead and develop a diverse, talented team of engineers across a range of seniority levels.

What We Look For
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years managing backend/platform teams operating 24x7 services.

  • Experience building and running payment or financial systems at scale, such as ACH, debit, bill pay, RPPS, or check processing, with strong reconciliation and audit practices.

  • Strong systems architecture skills across distributed systems, data integrity, idempotency, and exactly‑once semantics.

  • Proven track record improving reliability, observability, and on‑call effectiveness in high‑stakes domains.

  • Clear, direct communication; ability to align cross‑functional stakeholders and lead through ambiguity.

  • Nice to have: experience with provider integrations and payment rails, rules/controls frameworks, regulated environments, or large‑scale platform refactors.

Technologies We Use
  • Go (Golang) or JVM languages, TypeScript

  • PostgreSQL, Redis

  • Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms, Temporal (workflow orchestration)

  • AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform

  • Modern observability stacks (metrics, logs, tracing)

Perks & Benefits
  • Competitive compensation and equity packages

  • Leading configured work computers of your choice

  • Flexible paid time off

  • Fully covered, high-quality healthcare, including fully covered dependent coverage

  • Additional health coverage includes access to One Medical and the option to enroll in an FSA

  • 20 weeks of paid parental leave for the primary caregiver and 8 weeks for all new parents

  • Access to industry-leading technology across all of our business units, stemming from our philosophy that we should invest in resources for our team that foster innovation, optimization, and productivity
