Temporal is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Developer Experience team within the Temporal Core organization (Open Source Server, OSS). This team is part of the SVP of Engineering's organization and owns everything from long-term strategic efforts, such as Nexus, to smaller improvements that make developers more productive on a day-to-day basis. Our customers are developers all over the world who build mission-critical distributed applications. You’ll work closely with the SDK and product teams to deliver a consistent and intuitive experience.
You will lead projects like Nexus, Schedules, WorkflowUpdate, WorkflowPause and future developer-facing features. This is a unique opportunity to shape Temporal’s developer surface area and foster a culture of empathy, innovation, and user-first thinking.

What You’ll Do- Recruit, grow, and retain top engineering talent through coaching, mentorship, and career development.
- Own team-wide responsibility for day-to-day execution against priorities, focused on improving the experience for developers using Temporal.
- Foster key partnerships between leadership, engineering, and product teams.
- Collaborate with product, design, and user research to deeply understand developer pain points and translate them into impactful product capabilities.
- Own the roadmap and execution for key developer experience features such as Nexus, Schedules, WorkflowUpdate, WorkflowPause, and future workflow capabilities.
- Promote API design best practices, usability, consistency, and maintainability.
- Establish and reinforce high standards of engineering quality, documentation, and testing—developer experience begins with the code.
- Work closely with the Open Source community, collecting feedback and advocating for users.
- Champion a culture of empathy for developers both inside and outside the company.
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, including experience designing developer-facing APIs.
- 3+ years of experience managing or tech-leading public product with a focus on developer experience, platform tooling, or similar domains.
- Proven success in shipping developer tools or platform APIs that are intuitive, consistent, and delightful to use.
- Experience working with distributed systems, with a solid understanding of the challenges developers face when building on top of them.
- Deep understanding of software design principles, especially as they relate to usability, backward compatibility, and long-term maintainability.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills; able to drive alignment across engineering, product, and design.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate technical and product decisions to stakeholders.
- A track record of building strong engineering teams and nurturing an inclusive, empathetic, and high-performance culture.
- Experience with workflow engines or orchestration systems such as Temporal, Cadence, Durable Functions, Airflow, or Step Functions.
- Experience working with Go, TypeScript, Python, or Java.
- Participation in open-source communities or projects.
- The estimated pay range for this role is $220,000 - $265,000
- This role is eligible to participate in Temporal's equity plan
