The Position

Do you have experience in a fast-paced startup style environment? Do you excel when faced with product-focused challenges and care as much about building great user experiences as you do writing high quality code? We are looking for software engineers, and if that description resonates with you, you could be an excellent fit for our company.

Our technical team consists of dedicated engineers who share a passion for building a beautiful consumer website. They develop sophisticated algorithms and highly available systems to provide best-in-class services to our customers. You will play an integral role in creating a top-notch user experience and support the development of the backend systems that deliver our services. Your experience is needed to help scale our product for rapid growth while continuously improving our engineering practices. Most importantly, your work will impact how rewards points are maximized and help people travel better!

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with engineers, product, design, data, and the business to build high-quality, iterative, scalable solutions.
  • Solve Challenging Problems: Identify and resolve complex issues to provide intuitive, customer-focused experiences.
  • Promote Engineering Excellence: Advocate for sound engineering practices, such as automated testing, code reviews, and maintaining a "leave the code better than you found it" mentality.
  • Participate in Design Discussions: Engage in design discussions with key stakeholders to ensure alignment and empower engineers to focus on business goals.
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as a technical leader for other engineers, supporting their growth and success through mentorship and guidance.
  • Drive Innovation: Foster innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development, continuously improving our product.

Who You Are

  • Experienced Front-end Developer: Have a passion for front-end development with 6+ years of hands-on experience writing high-quality code in popular JS frameworks and libraries, including React, Next.js, Node.js, Formik, Material UI, Recoil, and Stripe. Comfortable contributing to architecture and implementation of responsive user interfaces.
  • Fullstack Capable: Proven experience building and maintaining scalable, reliable backend services using object-oriented programming languages such as Kotlin, Java, Ruby, Scala, GoLang, or Python. Able and willing to work on backend tasks to ensure seamless integration with the frontend and deliver a cohesive product.
  • Cloud Proficient: Experience implementing and operating large-scale, highly available applications in AWS cloud environments.
  • Agile Practitioner: Familiarity with Agile, Lean, and/or Continuous Delivery approaches such as TDD, continuous integration, pairing, and infrastructure automation.
  • Strong Communicator: Ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex technical and organizational problems and propose thorough, iterative solutions.
  • Collaborative Teammate: Thrives in a collaborative environment, consistently providing and receiving feedback with an open mind and willingness to continuously improve.
  • Domain Knowledge: Experience working with travel booking systems, especially airlines, is preferred but not required.
  • Educational Background: A degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience.

About point.me

Here at point.me we’re devoted to bringing simplicity and clarity to a system that is intentionally opaque. And unlike traditional travel agencies, or even online booking services like Orbitz, Kayak, & Google, we don’t take a fee or commission from the airlines when someone books a flight.

Instead, point.me is on the  side of our customers — we work directly for them! We’re an ally that uses our expertise and technology to ensure people travel better, and are never taken advantage of.

Our proprietary algorithm crawls the many hidden corners of the Internet, including those hard-to-search airline award websites to discover the clearest path to maximizing the value of loyalty and credit card points.

Benefits & perks

Join our growing team! Here at point.me we believe in taking care of our team, so that our team can take care of our customers. All employees are offered the following:

  • Competitive salaries and meaningful equity
  • Comprehensive health care coverage
  • A 100% distributed workforce, so you can contribute from wherever you prefer
  • An open vacation policy, with a minimum of 15 days off each year
  • Team trips and outings

This is a mid-senior engineering role, with commensurate responsibility and compensation. The anticipated salary range is $144,000 to $175,000. Specific compensation will be determined based on your level of experience. We are a fully distributed team.

Given the nature of our business, we anticipate that all team members will be traveling from time to time, including company trips and off-sites, or meeting with strategic partners. As such, being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is a condition of employment at point.me. We’ll ask you to send us a copy of your vaccination card in advance of your first day.

We respect the individual needs of employees and are an equal opportunity employer.
