We’re Underdog.

The fastest-growing sports gaming company – ever.

We build innovative games, products, and experiences for American sports fans.

We’re here to shake up the fastest growing industry with bold ideas, custom-built tech, and the drive to win.

Founded in 2020, our team has built four of today’s most widely played fantasy games and launched the Underdog Sportsbook – built entirely in-house with our own technology. That means we control our product, move fast, and create experiences you won’t find anywhere else.

In just over two years, we’ve reached over a $1.2 billion valuation, with investors like BlackRock, Spark Capital, SV Angel, Mark Cuban, Kevin Durant, and Adam Schefter. And we’re just getting started.

At Underdog, we believe that sports are for everyone. Join us.

About the role and why it’s unique:

  • Work on cutting edge projects focused on gamifying and building unique features into our fantasy and sports betting products
  • Design and develop clean, well-structured, and performant features — your work will be used by millions of our customers
  • Work closely with other product-minded individuals to shape and deliver the next wave of transformative fantasy and sports betting products
  • Collaborate with client engineers and product stakeholders from start to finish, openly communicating issues, asking clarifying questions, and raising concerns when needed
  • Advocate for best practices to create strong foundational development practices for our growing team
  • Grow in a high-agency environment where you have equity in technical decision-making and are accountable for those decisions
  • Learn from some of the best engineers and leaders in the fantasy and sports betting world while bringing your own unique perspective; we elevate each other to make Underdog the best sports gaming platform now and for the future!

Who you are:

  • A product-minded engineer with 6+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 1 year as a senior engineer.
  • At least 2 years of deep experience with Ruby on Rails
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, AWS, and modern DevOps tooling.
  • Strong understanding of SQL, observability (e.g., Datadog, Amplitude), and API design.
  • Skilled in scaling distributed systems, handling performance, caching, and database optimization.
  • Comfortable working across the stack and collaborating with product and design to ship great user experiences.
  • A clear communicator and empathetic teammate who values mentorship and feedback.

Even better if you have:

  • Experience in fantasy sports or sports betting (or a strong interest!).
  • Worked at a company through periods of rapid growth or scale.
  • Experience building highly scalable and available systems to handle high traffic conditions with low latency

Our target starting base salary range for this position is between $150,000 and $190,000, plus target equity. The starting base salary will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate’s skills and experience, among other things.

What we can offer you:

  • 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave
  • A $500 home office allowance
  • A connected virtual first culture with a highly engaged distributed workforce
  • 5% 401k match, FSA, company paid health, dental, vision plan options for employees and dependents
