Job Summary

As Sr. Director and Actuary within the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Emerging Risks team in Corporate Actuarial and Risk Management, you will direct key activities of the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management framework. This includes designing impactful and informative reporting for senior management, advising on and directing the development of key metrics, targets and tolerances, effectively leveraging a cross-functional network of risk champions across the organization and consulting on the holistic risk implications of strategic business initiatives.

This position also ensures monitoring and raising awareness of the external environment for emerging risks and sources of potential disruption to the business, including but not limited to regulatory developments within the insurance industry with an actuarial, risk-based capital, or enterprise risk focus.

Occasional travel only (such as for planning purposes, team building, or conferences) may be required.

Skills and Background You’ll Need

  • Management of the key recurring elements of the Enterprise Risk Framework, including maintenance of the risk taxonomy, risk monitoring and reporting.
  • Experience with ORSA analysis and preparation of ORSA summary reports.
  • Collaboration with the business and functional areas to develop meaningful metrics, targets and tolerances, conduct stress tests or scenario analysis, consult on strategic initiatives and promote a risk-aware culture.
  • Awareness of developments in the external environment that could impact the organization’s risk profile and of regulatory developments with an actuarial, risk-based capital, or enterprise risk focus.
  • Broad actuarial, financial and industry expertise combined with product line knowledge and skills to contribute to the achievement of company goals. 
  • Responsible for the overall management and technical oversight of the most senior actuarial individual contributors and/or of multiple teams of actuarial staff, where activities are concerned with multiple functions for a subset or segment of a Major Product Group, Line of Business, or Market, or a single function for multiple Major Product Groups or Markets.
  • Develop networks across the department/group/organization.  Effectively leverage resources from other departments across the organization to accomplish common business goals.  Viewed as a key resource to the group, provide thought leadership in his/her key areas of responsibilities.  Subject matter expert with the ability to negotiate and influence senior management decision making. 
  • Routinely provide counsel to the Top Actuarial Executive within the Product Group/Line of Business, or Market Segment, and to financial, underwriting, operational or product development leadership on broad-based strategies to enhance the risk and profitability profile of the business.
  • ASA designation, or equivalent, required with 7-10 years of actuarial work experience. FSA preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in mathematics, actuarial science, business or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives with enterprise impact.
  • Work on complex, cross-functional initiatives where analysis of situations requires evaluation of quantitative, qualitative, forward looking and organizational factors.

  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on a variety of factors including individual and organizational performance.

Salary Range:

$177,500.00 - $283,500.00
