Job summary
We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer who will play a role in updating the state of our infrastructure, automation, and operational excellence. This role requires a deep understanding of systems, networking, monitoring, and security, with a strong bias toward automation, reliability and scale. The ideal candidate will be a technical leader, helping to shape the direction of infrastructure and tooling.
What you will do
- Implementation of infrastructure automation, monitoring, and system reliability practices committed to providing 100% service availability.
- Able to perform forensic system administration, troubleshooting unfamiliar Linux systems and services.
- Demonstrates a SecOps mindset with a focus on secure automation and hardened Linux system administration.
- Champion the use and advancement of DevOps best practices including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and zero-touch provisioning.
- Utilize best practices in release management, incident management, capacity planning, and operational readiness.
- Instrumentation of services with visualization to speed triage (lower MTTR) allowing no direct access to systems.
- Exerts technical influence horizontally—up and laterally to fellow seniors, and down to the team.
- Acts as a mentor to DevOps and engineering team members; share knowledge and foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
- Proactively identify and implement opportunities to increase system resiliency.
- Implement technical direction around infrastructure, cloud, networking (BGP), and automation strategy.
- Participate in on-call rotation, demonstrating strong customer empathy and responsiveness to incidents.
- Own and improve standard operating procedures and system documentation.
- Research, prototype, and implement new technologies across cloud, virtualization, and hardware platforms.
What you will have
- Strong Linux systems administration background with a deep understanding of how Linux interacts with hardware (CPU, memory, disk, networking).
- Advanced proficiency in scripting and automation using Ansible, Bash, Python, Packer, and Terraform.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, IAM, VPC, etc.) and provisioning tools like Terraform and Packer.
- Experience with datacenter operations including racking, stacking, and remote system management.
- Proven ability to manage and configure systems at scale with zero-touch provisioning approaches.
- Experience managing monitoring systems and developing custom dashboards for observability.
- Solid understanding of networking within a linux environment (Router -> Switch -> Server -> Virtualization -> Linux -> Service) ; BGP and DNS experience is a plus.
- Passion for operational excellence, security, and performance.
- Ability to self-manage, communicate effectively, and collaborate with diverse technical teams.
- Willingness and ability to learn new technologies as required.
Nice to have
- Experience with Kentik, Splunk, or similar network visibility and observability platforms.
- Familiarity with modern CI/CD tools and pipeline architecture.
- Willingness and ability to learn new languages as required.
- Experience in designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs following coding best practices.
- Understanding of release management processes in large-scale environments.
