Job Description

Albemarle is hiring for a Senior Data Scientist. This is a hybrid position located in Charlotte, NC.

The Senior Data Scientist is a key role within Data Science.

Data Science is a collaborative and impactful team of data scientist, engineers, problem-solvers, and strategic thinkers. As part Albemarle’s Strategic Marketing organization, we build world-class forecasts, analytics, and models of the global lithium and bromine industries. We answer foundational questions about the current- and future-state of these industries and collaborate across Albemarle to deliver data-driven insights that create strategic advantage.

What You Will Do

  • Lead Data Science Initiatives: from problem definition to model deployment and strategic impact

  • Model Market Dynamics: analyze, model, forecast, and visualize markets and supply/demand dynamics for key Albemarle products

  • Create Strategic Insights: integrate fundamental models, techno-economic analysis, and data science with subject expertise and intelligence from across Albemarle to generate strategic insights about end markets, industry response, and technology innovation 

  • Communicate with Data: present findings in a clear, actionable, and accessible manner to stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Guide business partners in interpreting data, understanding its implications, and utilizing it effectively

  • Drive Innovation & Improvement: drive adoption of innovative data science tools and techniques. Mentor and develop data scientists across Albemarle, setting best practices, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement

  • Develop Expertise: Enhance your data science, communication, leadership, market, and business expertise

What You Bring

Required:

  • BS/MS in Engineering, Science, or Economics  

  • 8+ years of experience using fundamental models and data analysis to create strategic insights about end markets, supply/demand dynamics, and/or technology innovation  

  • Experience with predictive models and methods, including forecasting market dynamics

  • Strong project leadership skills, including project definition and stakeholder management

  • A demonstrated ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and communicate findings in a clear and concise manner. Advanced data visualization skills

  • Strong creative problem solving and critical thinking abilities. Experience addressing complex business challenges

  • A collaborative approach to developing data models, analytics, and insights

  • Domain expertise in chemical markets, energy storage, lithium, mining, electric vehicles, bromine, flame retardants, or related

Preferred:

  • Advanced Python programming skills

  • Intermediate or greater Plotly or Dash

  • Intermediate or greater Cloud (Databricks, etc)

  • Intermediate or greater version-control (Azure DevOps etc)
