About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and manage our core AWS data infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for creating scalable, high-performance, and cost-effective data solutions. You will collaborate closely with data science, engineering, and product teams to build the ETL processes and storage solutions that power our analytics, underwriting, and risk management tools, directly impacting our mission to create safer workplace

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and oversee our AWS-based data infrastructure, ensuring it strikes the right balance between performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.

  • Engage and collaborate with cross-functional teams including data science, field engineering, and computer vision groups to ensure the infrastructure is tailored to their varying requirements.

  • Champion the development and maintenance of ETL processes, leveraging tools like Amazon Glue, SQS, and Lambda functions.

  • Strategize and implement optimal data storage solutions, leveraging Amazon S3, PostgreSQL, Redshift, and AWS RDS.

  • Build and support underwriting, pricing, and risk management tools using analytics platforms like Google Data Studio, AWS QuickSight, and Tableau.

  • Automate and streamline data processes to pinpoint the sweet spot between performance and cost, ensuring timely and precise delivery of data analytics.

Required Experience

  • 7+ years of software development experience, with a minimum of 3+ years focused specifically on cloud data engineering.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with core AWS services, notably Redshift, AWS RDS, Amazon S3, Glue, SQS, and Lambda functions.

  • Expert-level programming skills in both TypeScript and Python.

  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, QuickSight, Google Data Studio) and handling a mix of structured and semi-structured data; experience in the InsureTech sector is advantageous.

  • Acute analytical and problem-solving capabilities, paired with excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with both in-house teams and overseas development partners.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience in InsureTech.

  • Experience with processing and ingesting free form data

  • Experience building out data pipelines and analytics for a fast growing MGA

Compensation: CompScience is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The annual salary range for this role is $150,000 – $175,000. Compensation is determined within the range based on your qualifications and experience. Our total compensation package also includes equity and comprehensive benefits.
