Federato is on a mission to defend the right to efficient, equitable insurance for all. We enable insurers to provide affordable coverage to people and organizations facing the issues of today - the climate crisis, cyber-attacks, social inflation, etc. Our vision is understood and well funded by those behind Salesforce, Veeva, Zoom, Box, etc.

Federato’s AI/ML-driven platform leverages deep reinforcement learning to help insurance companies optimize the portfolio of risks they insure, allowing them to continue to provide fair and equitable pricing in difficult-to-price areas. Our category-defining ‘RiskOps’ solution drives better underwriting decisions by operationalizing underutilized data investments and surfacing real-time risk and portfolio insights. We focus on putting insurance underwriters back in the driver’s seat, helping them meet their goals while providing an important service to society.

Role Overview
You’ll join a small, high-impact data engineering team that sits within Federato’s broader AI/ML organization. We work closely with machine learning engineers to support AI product development, while also partnering cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and GTM teams to build trusted data models and surface insights that improve both internal decision-making and the end-user experience. You’ll play a key role in shaping the foundation of our analytics stack and helping Federato scale with confidence.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Design, build, and maintain the foundational data models (dbt) that power analytics across the organization.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define key business metrics, implement tracking, and deliver actionable insights to teams.
  • Partner with platform engineers to optimize data pipelines that serve both internal decision-making and AI-assisted user interfaces.
  • Enable self-service analytics by delivering clean, well-documented models and intuitive data tools.
  • Shape how data is presented in our platform—contributing to features that enable users to interact with and explore their own data more intuitively.
  • Own the data lifecycle—from ingestion and transformation to validation and documentation—ensuring trusted, production-grade outputs.=

Who We Hope You Are:

  • 4+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a related role in a modern data stack (e.g., dbt, Snowflake, Airflow, Looker, or similar).
  • Strong SQL and Python skills and a passion for clean, modular, testable data models.
  • Experience with software development practices like version control, CI/CD, or dbt testing strategies.
  • Experience building and maintaining a semantic layer in collaboration with data consumers.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and working closely with business stakeholders to understand their data needs.
  • Proven track record of designing high-impact data products and pipelines in fast-paced environments.

Bonus Points for:

  • Prior experience working in or adjacent to insurance, fintech, or risk modeling domains.
  • Experience supporting AI/ML-powered products or working with data workflows that power intelligent applications.
  • Familiarity with data observability tooling (e.g., Monte Carlo, Datafold).
  • Comfort working in Typescript
  • Contributions to open-source data tools or involvement in the data community.

$150,000 - $170,000 a year
Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above. Total compensation package does include stock options, benefits and additional perks.

Here at Federato, your capabilities are important, but culture fit is quintessential. We move fast, are eager to listen to our users, take a first principles approach to solving problems, and value learning and the ability to change our minds. Most importantly, we're here to have fun. Our ability to make a difference starts with our people. We would love to work with you!

We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status or disability status. We will provide reasonable accommodation to individuals with disabilities to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment.
