Job Summary

The Data Analyst plays a vital role in supporting class action settlement projects by structuring and analyzing complex datasets, ensuring data integrity, and delivering actionable insights. This role serves as the primary data point of contact for the assigned team and works closely with legal and project management stakeholders. Ideal candidates possess strong analytical skills, technical expertise in SQL and Python or R, and the ability to navigate ambiguity in a high-stakes, data-intensive legal environment. This position is integral to maintaining transparent, compliant, and efficient settlement processes.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze large, complex, and sometimes incomplete datasets related to class action settlements. Data sets are often comprised of millions of records.

  • Navigate thin requirements via constant communication and questioning, while exercising reasoned judgment calls.

  • Develop and refine data cleaning and validation processes to improve accuracy and consistency.

  • Work closely with project managers and legal teams to understand case-specific claim requirements and constraints.

  • Assess claims for validity based on project guidelines, identifying inconsistencies, fraud, or missing information.

  • Provide data-driven insights to support decision-making on claim approvals, denials, or deficiencies.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to central data support members on collaborative tasks.

  • Generate reports, visualizations, and dashboards to communicate insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Suggest and implement process improvements to ensure smoother data handling in future settlements.

  • Maintain documentation of processes, data structures, and decisions made for auditing and compliance purposes.

Qualifications and Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Strong SQL skills for querying and manipulating large datasets.

  • Experience handling unstructured or messy data and applying data cleaning/validation techniques.

  • Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and automation.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to evolving case requirements.

  • Ability to assess claim validity based on structured and unstructured data inputs.

  • Experience working in legal, financial, or regulatory data environments is highly preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills—able to translate technical insights into practical recommendations for legal and project management teams.

  • High attention to detail with the ability to detect anomalies, patterns, and inconsistencies in data.

  • Resilience, adaptability, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
