The Role

We are looking for a dynamic + strategic teammate to join our Internal Finance team here at Burkland. If you have a background as an experienced senior-level Controller and a passion for innovation and systems design, Burkland may be a wonderful fit for you!

Your Typical, Atypical, Day

  • This role has variety at its core. From facilitating meetings to overseeing monthly and yearly financial closes, no day will be a typical day (hence the typical, atypical day).

  • You will be overseeing all accounting operations, including invoicing, payroll, financial analysis and reporting, monthly closes, accounts receivable and payable, and more.

  • As a part of this, you will need to roll up your sleeves and get deep into some Excel/Gsheets work on a regular basis.

  • You will be supervising, coaching and growing our current internal finance team.

  • You will be on a constant lookout to identify opportunities for automation and system and process improvements, and will proactively create and implement efficient, smart solutions for the team.

  • You’ll be working with a variety of different tasks, so the ability to shift context, communicate, prioritize, and evaluate needs is central to this role.

  • You will be working in a fully remote capacity! You design where and how you work each day.

About You

  • You are a naturally curious problem-solver. You’re someone who likes to learn and is eager to take on new challenges, especially in proactively designing system and process efficiencies.

  • You are an Excel/G-Sheets guru and an analytical thinker with the ability to design systems to process large volumes of data and transactions. The more processes we can automate, the better.

  • You are able to zoom out and look at the financials with a bird’s eye view to extrapolate information and identify the storyline that the numbers are telling you.

  • You are a communicator at your core. Whether it’s problem solving with team members or reporting financial results to the executive team, you are able to clearly communicate insights and actionable ideas that can influence overall business strategy.

  • You lead with integrity in all that you say and do.

  • You have experience supervising, managing, and growing both domestic and offshore teams. 5+ years of team management experience required.

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or something similar, and 10+ years of progressive, relevant experience, with at least 8 of those years being at a Controller level.

  • You’re pals with GAAP. Advanced degree in accounting, CPA or CMA preferred.

Core Competencies

  • In-depth experience with all accounting and bookkeeping functions related to monthly and annual accounting close processes and financial reporting. Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.

  • Expert-level proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, including advanced formulas (e.g. nested functions, array formulas, lookups, query/filter functions, conditional logic, pivot tables, macros) and the ability to build efficient, scalable spreadsheet models.

  • Experience with identifying and implementing system improvements and automation.

  • A proven track record of exceptional teamwork and managerial skills. Experience managing both domestic and international teams.

  • Strong working knowledge of key software. On a daily basis, you’ll be using the entire G-Suite, Excel, Quickbooks Online, Bill.com, Expensify and Ramp. You’ll also be using Google Meet and video conferencing tools to facilitate meetings.

What We Offer

  • Flexible remote work schedule to promote a healthy work-life balance.

  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance for you and your dependents.

  • Short & Long Term Disability Insurance to support you when you need it the most.

  • Flexible PTO - Take time off from work when you need it.

  • 401(k) with a company match.

  • A generous home office expense reimbursement so you have the office you need to be productive.

  • We offer a collaborative, communicative culture, driven by our Core Purpose + Values. We work with incredibly smart people who love to learn and share what they know. If this sounds like a team you'd like to be a part of, we'd love to hear from you.
