What you’ll be doing
CIBC’s Technology Infrastructure and Innovation (TI&I) business spans Technology, Information Security, Deposit Operations, Loan Operations, Payment Operations, Data Management Office, Corporate Real Estate, Corporate Security, Procurement, Operational Resilience, and Risk & Governance. TI&I drives operational excellence by managing the technology and operations required to run the bank, enabling transformation through innovation, and supporting growth objectives with flawless execution of strategic initiatives.
The Governance and Oversight (G&O) team within TI&I operates as a First Line team in the Three Lines of Defense model, enabling risk discipline, business resiliency, and value creation while strengthening the CIBC Risk Management Framework.

As the Senior Consultant, Strategic Planning & Control Effectiveness, you will lead the advancement of TI&I’s control environment. You will develop and execute Governance, Risk & Control (GRC) strategies, ensuring the control environment is robust, effective, and aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
GRC Strategy Leadership: Develop, execute and continually assess comprehensive GRC strategies aligned with enterprise risk appetite, business goals, emerging risks and regulatory expectations. Maintain and enhance operating models for strong collaboration, accountability, and transparency. Drive initiatives to enhance the internal control framework using emerging technologies. Advise senior executives on GRC trends and strategic opportunities.
Control Effectiveness and Performance Monitoring: Utilize data analytics, automation and AI to strengthen control design, monitoring and reporting. Design and implement continuous control monitoring frameworks to ensure real-time oversight of controls and compliance. Collaborate with stakeholders to rationalize, standardize, and centralize controls while ensuring control coverage against regulatory requirements and standards. Monitor control performance and conduct regular reviews to ensure controls adapt to evolving business needs and risks. Develop dashboards and reports that provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
Collaborating with partners across all levels and geographies: Facilitate cross-functional coordination by working closely with internal stakeholders in Canada and the US, across all three lines of defense, at various levels of seniority.
Driving continuous improvement through technology and innovation: Identify opportunities to enhance the control environment by leveraging new technologies, automation, and AI tools. Streamline processes, reduce manual effort, and improve overall program effectiveness.
Supporting teams with training, consultation, and tools: Serve as a trusted advisor on risk management, control design, and compliance matters. Develop and deliver training sessions, provide expert consultation, and equip teams with resources to manage the control environment effectively. Foster a positive risk culture of awareness and accountability.

Managing multiple, complex priorities in a fast-paced environment: Simultaneously handle numerous initiatives and deadlines, adapting to ambiguity and shifting priorities. Proactively identify potential issues, escalate concerns, and drive timely resolution to ensure compliance and mitigate risk. Operating with minimal direction and extensive risk management expertise: Use your deep knowledge of risk management principles and multi-segment risk management to lead complex initiatives.
Navigating ambiguity, exercising considerable judgement and leading complex initiatives: Operate effectively in ambiguous situations and make decisions on complex issues impacting multiple stakeholders, systems, or processes. Lead initiatives that require strategic thinking and coordination across the organization.
Who you are
You are experienced risk professional with 8+ years of progressive experience in technology risk management, governance, or internal controls within the financial industry. You have proven experience in developing, leading, and executing GRC strategies in a technology environment and strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards (e.g., COBIT, NIST, ISO), and best practices in technology risk and controls.
You are a Strategic Thinker who has the ability to see the big picture, anticipate future trends, and develop long-term plans that align with organizational goals. You are skilled at analyzing complex situations, identifying opportunities and risks, and making informed decisions that drive sustainable success.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $130,000- $150,000 USD based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position (salary varies depending on the location which will be discussed at the time of the interview). The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
