Why Mozilla?

Mozilla Corporation is the non-profit-backed technology company that has shaped the internet for the better over the last 25 years. We make pioneering brands like Firefox, the privacy-minded web browser. Now, with more than 225 million people around the world using our products each month, we’re shaping the next 25 years of technology and helping to reclaim an internet built for people, not companies. Our work focuses on diverse areas including AI, social media, security and more. And we’re doing this while never losing our focus on our core mission – to make the internet better for people.

The Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation. This means we aren’t beholden to any shareholders — only to our mission. Along with thousands of volunteer contributors and collaborators all over the world, Mozillians design, build and distribute open-source software that enables people to enjoy the internet on their terms.

About this team and role:

Mozilla is on a mission to build a better internet– one that’s open, accessible, and people first! We’re seeking a Senior Communications Manager who doesn’t just execute but thinks strategically and creatively to drive awareness, reach, and advocacy. This is a role for someone who thrives in ambiguity, identifies opportunities others overlook, and delivers communications that set Mozilla apart, all with limited oversight.

As Senior Manager, Communications, you’ll lead the development and execution of external media strategies that support Mozilla’s mission and amplify its presence across sectors. You’ll work cross-functionally with teams, including Product, Brand, Legal, Policy, and Social/Content, to craft compelling, newsworthy narratives that resonate with both tech-savvy and general audiences.

A key part of your success in this role will be your ability to tell stories that clearly set Mozilla apart from competitors, highlighting our distinct values, our open-source roots, and our people-first approach to technology. You’ll lead media engagement and manage key reporter relationships, but you’ll also think beyond press, to find creative ways to spark conversation, shape storytelling, and get people talking about Mozilla’s work and products in culture and the broader tech landscape.

You’ll be a trusted advisor to senior executives when needed, preparing them for public engagements and playing a key role in product launches, thought leadership, and company positioning. You’ll lead sophisticated, cross-functional projects with minimal direction, navigating ambiguity and moving from strategy to execution with clarity. You'll also improve communications from project work to program-level strategy through establishing success metrics, coordinating budgets, and ensuring long-term impact.

What You’ll Do:
  • Lead external communications for Mozilla’s products and initiatives.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive media strategies that drive awareness, differentiation, and business outcomes.
  • Craft high-impact messaging, press materials, blog posts, and executive content — with a focus on clearly differentiating Mozilla from its competitors.
  • Manage media relationships across tech, business, and consumer verticals.
  • Serve as a key media contact — proactively pitching, responding to inquiries, and managing ongoing press relationships.
  • Prepare and coach senior executives for media interviews, public speaking, and high-visibility opportunities.
  • Lead complex, multi-stakeholder communications projects with limited oversight.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure aligned and consistent storytelling across channels.
  • Independently develop new, creative narratives and strategies that not only enhance campaigns but also anticipate emerging trends, tap into cultural conversations, and reinforce Mozilla’s unique position in the market.
  • Shift from project to program-level thinking by defining success metrics, managing budgets, and using long-term measurement to continually improve communications impact.
  • Make strategic recommendations on communications priorities to support broader marketing and business goals.
  • Navigate sensitive issues with confidence and contribute to strategic crisis response when needed.
What You Bring:
  • 7+ years of experience in communications or media relations, ideally in tech or product PR.
  • A proven ability to lead projects independently and make sound decisions with minimal guidance.
  • Strong media relationships and a successful track record of placing impactful stories.
  • Excellent writing skills, editorial judgment, and a knack for creative, compelling storytelling.
  • Demonstrated experience developing narratives that set a brand apart from competitors.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence across teams.
  • Strategic thinker capable of managing programs, budgets, and long-term initiatives.
  • A proactive, strategic mindset with the ability to see the big picture, anticipate opportunities, and connect the dots between Mozilla’s work and the cultural, industry, and news landscape.
  • Experience advising and supporting executives in high-stakes communications moments.
  • A collaborative spirit and the ability to bring people together to produce innovative, high-impact work.
  • Experience working with and managing agencies or external partners.
What you’ll get:
  • Generous performance-based bonus plans to all eligible employees - we share in our success as one team
  • Rich medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous retirement contributions with 100% immediate vesting (regardless of whether you contribute)
  • Quarterly all-company wellness days where everyone takes a pause together
  • Country specific holidays plus a day off for your birthday
  • One-time home office stipend
  • Annual professional development budget
  • Quarterly well-being stipend
  • Considerable paid parental leave
  • Employee referral bonus program
