Job Description SummaryThis position is for a Senior Staff Quality Engineer to own and lead quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives for our critical external coating partners. This mid-career role requires a blend of hands-on technical expertise in aerospace design, quality, and coating (Plating, Vapor Diffusion, and PVD overlay) technologies , as well as proven supplier management skills in auditing, process control, and implementing corrective action plans (CAPA). The ideal candidate will be a primary driver in elevating our vendors to world-class quality standards, significantly reducing quality defects.
This role will be working significant to full time onsite at the supplier's location in Indianapolis, Indiana with regular expected travel to other sites in Mississippi and Singapore up to 25% based on business need.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Includes both Supplier Quality Assurance and Supplier Quality Development. Includes supplier qualifications, action plans, audits, performance monitoring, and assisting key suppliers towards industrial standards of excellence. SQEs have various levels of differentiation which are related to level of technical understanding of engineering drawings and ability to manage vendors.
  • Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise within coatings and turbine airfoils design
  • Requires strong commercial awareness, and is expected to influence the development of strategy within own area, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
  • Indirectly lead functional teams to complete projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity.
  • Communicates difficult concepts to organizational, technical, and supplier leadership
  • Regularly advises management in coating quality and supplier readiness. Has a supportive role in decision making about important subjects. High levels of evaluative judgment are required to achieve outcomes required.
  • Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems that impact turbine airfoils quality. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) focused on coating quality, yield, and delivery performance across the supply chain.
  • Drive process improvement projects at supplier facilities using FLIGHT DECK and APQP methodologies to optimize reduce variability.
  • Standardize best practices across the vendors global industrial base.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 8 years of experience in Turbine Airfoils.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Quality, Design, or Manufacturing role associated with Plating, Vapor Aluminide, and non-organic Physical Vapor Deposition coatings.
  • US person

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, material specifications (AMS standards), and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems with appropriate rigor and responsiveness.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Established project management skills.
