A US-based company (a global leader in cruise vacationing industry) is looking for a Cloud Platform Engineer to work on its customer-facing web-based solution used by hundreds of thousand users daily.
About the Role:
We are seeking a talented and motivated Cloud Platform Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in building, managing, and scaling our cloud infrastructure on AWS. You will be responsible for providing a robust and reliable platform that empowers our product teams to rapidly build and deploy innovative applications.
You will leverage Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles, GitOps methodologies, and cutting-edge observability tools to ensure the efficiency, security, and scalability of our cloud environment.
Responsibilities:
- Cloud Infrastructure Management: Design, create, and manage AWS cloud resources using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as AWS CloudFormation and the AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK).
- Containerization and Orchestration: Implement and manage containerized workloads in Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) utilizing GitOps principles and the Flux CD tool.
- GitOps Workflow Enablement: Enable product teams to seamlessly build and deploy applications into EKS through the effective use of Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions, and Flux.
- Observability and Monitoring: Implement and manage comprehensive observability solutions using Splunk Observability Cloud, including metrics, logging, and tracing.
- Troubleshooting and Support: Proactively troubleshoot and resolve issues related to applications running across our AWS environment, including EKS, Elastic Beanstalk, and Lambda.
- CDN and WAF Management: Understand and work with Akamai as our Content Delivery Network (CDN) and Web Application Firewall (WAF) solution.
- Documentation and Standards: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for infrastructure, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Collaboration and Communication: Effectively communicate and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams (software engineers, security engineers, etc.) to deliver and maintain platform services.
- Stakeholder Communication: Clearly and concisely communicate technical concepts and issues to non-technical stakeholders.
- Diagramming and Visualization: Create and maintain clear and accurate diagrams illustrating infrastructure and architectural designs.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest cloud technologies and best practices, and proactively identify opportunities for improvement within our platform.
- Security and Compliance: Implement and adhere to security best practices and compliance requirements within the cloud environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 5+ years of experience in a Cloud Engineering or DevOps role.
- Significant experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Proven experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools, preferably AWS CloudFormation and CDK.
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing applications in Kubernetes, ideally with Amazon EKS.
- Strong understanding and practical experience with GitOps methodologies and tools, particularly Flux CD.
- Experience implementing and utilizing observability platforms, with preference for Splunk Observability Cloud (or similar tools like Datadog, New Relic).
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and experience with tools like GitHub Actions.
- Experience troubleshooting applications running in various AWS services (EKS, Elastic Beanstalk, Lambda).
- Familiarity with CDN and WAF solutions, with knowledge of Akamai being a significant advantage.
- Strong understanding of networking principles and security best practices in a cloud environment.
- Experience with scalable architectures, cloud platforms, and transactional applications.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on impact-driven decision-making.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Ability to create and maintain clear and concise infrastructure and architecture diagram (e.g., using tools like Lucidchart, draw.io).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- A proactive and continuous learning mindset.
