The Hartford’s Enterprise Cloud Organization is looking for a Senior Cloud Solution Engineer to spearhead the transformation of its cloud operations. This role includes setting strategic directions for cloud engineering, designing modern architectures for multi-cloud deployments, evaluating future technical solutions, and assessing security risks. The Senior Cloud Solution Engineer will work closely with leaders in infrastructure, enterprise cloud operations, security architecture, data services, and CIO areas to develop an application-focused cloud ecosystem using Google services.

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in architecting cloud-first solutions, primarily within Google, and a strong understanding of AWS and/or Azure. This position offers the opportunity to shape the future direction of cloud engineering at The Hartford, drive transformation efforts, and present recommendations to various teams. The ideal candidate should be able to execute critical initiatives independently and mentor junior engineers.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Responsibilities:

  • Execute product development for GCP, AWS, and multi-cloud environments, adhering to software engineering principles and governance.
  • Develop and enhance the GCP platform in alignment with the multi-cloud strategy and roadmap.
  • Engage in the design, implementation, orchestration, automation, and maintenance of GCP, AWS, and multi-cloud services.
  • Engineer and manage immutable infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and technology partners to support cloud transformation with a focus on security.
  • Develop and maintain technology standards, reference architecture blueprints, enterprise-level architecture decisions, and reusable engineering patterns.
  • Define and enforce standards, patterns, policies, and processes for GCP and multi-cloud product engineering.
  • Lead and participate in technology selection workshops and proof-of-concept projects.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience as a Cloud Engineer in platform and product engineering for infrastructure services, networking, security, and software engineering.
  • 3+ years of direct experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and services; familiarity with AWS and multi-cloud ecosystems.
  • Extensive experience in building scalable cloud solutions using emerging technologies like Generative AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics.
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps philosophy and scaled agile methodologies.
  • Proven ability to navigate a highly matrixed environment and work within cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for interacting with all levels of management and staff.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry is a plus.
  • Preferred certifications: Google Professional Cloud Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, Azure Solutions Architect – Expert.

Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$136,000 - $204,000
