As a Builder, you are core to the development at Xome. You are comfortable navigating multiple layers, environments, and methodologies of software development, and working across teams, technologies, and business products. The role designs, develops, deploys, and operates modern cloud-native applications across the full technology stack - user interfaces, APIs, data platforms, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and production support.
A successful Builder at any level will be able to leverage AI-native development practices and tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to accelerate delivery, applying strong technical fundamentals, sound architectural thinking, and the judgment to solve complex problems with the right approach - whether that is code, automation, cloud platforms, data, or AI.
Builders are engaged to work in agile development teams, product development pods, operational reliability research and incident resolution SWAT teams, and can also work autonomously outside of a virtual team. Builders are the "get it done" roles with the skillset, experience, mindset, know-how, and intuition to actively dig-in, collaboratively engage, curiously discover, maturely solution, expertly develop, and deliver. Builders are given the problems to solve that other engineers simply do not have the skills or breadth of experience to adequately deal with, and maintain quality and speed in their work.
About the r ole
Strategy
  • Owns the technical vision, design, and delivery of one or more business capabilities or technology domains.
  • Drives engineering decisions that balance business needs, scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Develops, prototypes, and evaluates solution approaches for a capability or domain, weighing tradeoffs and recommending a direction; identifies opportunities to improve systems, processes, automation, resiliency, and developer productivity; brainstorms and prototypes innovative approaches within their area.
  • Owns how a capability is operated as well as how it is built: authors wiki, teaching, and reference material; envisions, builds, and rolls out appropriate observability; and improves surrounding business processes. Tracks the impact of these improvements in concrete terms, such as dollars saved and hours reduced.

Technology & Engineering
  • Design, build, test, deploy, and support web applications, APIs, integrations, and distributed systems.
  • Strong hands-on development across the stack; builds and supports full-stack applications spanning UI, APIs, backend, data platforms, and cloud infrastructure; builds cloud-native solutions in Azure and/or AWS using containers and IaC; works with relational and NoSQL databases (schema design, performance optimization, indexing, data integration).
  • Designs and implements RESTful APIs, GraphQL APIs, event-driven architectures, service-to-service integrations, and MCP-based solutions.

Delivery & Operations
  • Translates business requirements into technical designs, specifications, and implementation plans.
  • Leads or contributes to the full SDLC (requirements through deployment and support); owns services throughout their lifecycle, including development, deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
  • Uses observability tooling (logging, metrics, tracing, telemetry, dashboards, alerts) to proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Participates in incident response and RCA, producing RCA documents and preventative measures (including new telemetry, monitoring, and alerting); participates in an on-call rotation when required.
  • Supports production deployments, releases, and operational activities.
  • Maintains the parts of the development wiki, runbooks, and reference material relevant to owned services.
  • Contributes to project planning, estimation, and successful delivery against schedules and commitments; delivers with high efficiency and velocity, consistently producing quality deliverables at speed.

Collaboration & Leadership
  • Collaborates with the same cross-functional partners to ideate, prototype, and deliver solutions.
  • Conducts peer reviews and provides constructive technical feedback.
  • Mentors junior engineers and contributes to the growth of the engineering organization.
  • Facilitates technical discussions, design reviews, code walkthroughs, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Partners with business stakeholders to communicate technical capabilities, limitations, risks, and implementation approaches.
  • May provide technical leadership for contractors or project teams.
  • Applies secure engineering practices including authentication, authorization, encryption, secrets management, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Utilizes AI-assisted tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining quality, security, and maintainability; applies engineering judgment to validate AI-generated code, designs, documentation, and procedures through testing, peer review, and observability.
  • Establishes and maintains automated testing, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Champions clean, maintainable, well-crafted code and sets a high quality bar within their area.
  • Produces and maintains technical documentation, architecture diagrams, support runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Continuously evaluates and adopts technologies, frameworks, and tools that improve engineering effectiveness.

About y ou
