Job Description Summary:

The Senior Electrical Engineer for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is a key technical leader responsible for the design, development, implementation, and optimization of BESS projects. This role involves providing strategic direction, technical expertise, and engineering oversight to ensure the successful delivery of BESS solutions that meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead and manage the design and engineering of battery energy storage systems, including system architecture, electrical layout, and integration with power generation, distribution, and control systems ensuring contract compliance, utility requirements, and AHJ requirements.

  • Review feasibility studies, site assessments, and energy storage system sizing analyses to evaluate project viability, identify technical requirements, and recommend optimal BESS configurations and technologies while considering provisions for project’s future augmentation.

  • Review and develop detailed technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for BESS components, including integrated battery cabinets, inverters, transformers, switchgear, generators, metering and control systems to assist with procurement activities.

  • Provide technical oversight during procurement processes including vendor selection recommendations and approval drawing reviews.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards.

  • Oversee system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize BESS performance, efficiency, and reliability, considering factors such as load profiles, grid requirements, and ancillary services.

  • Oversee and provide engineering support for testing, validation, and commissioning of BESS systems, coordinating with stakeholders to ensure successful system integration, functionality, and performance validation.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement in BESS engineering practices.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, advancements, and best practices in battery storage technologies, grid integration, energy management systems, and regulatory requirements.

  • Support business development activities, including proposal development, client presentations, and technical consultations, displaying the organization's expertise and capabilities in BESS engineering and deployment.

  • Provide engineering and technical guidance throughout the project's life to align project contractual and procurement requirements.

  • Provide BESS Energization Support/Initial Synchronization

  • Participate in team meetings/calls regularly.

  • Clearly and accurately communicate as SOLV engineering representative on regular customer/client meetings.

  • Travel as needed to support project execution.

  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on battery energy storage systems, renewable energy, or power systems integration.

  • Demonstrated expertise in the design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems, including lithium-ion batteries, inverters, BMS (Battery Management Systems), and grid interconnection equipment.

  • Ablility to understand the implementation of control strategies, algorithms, and software for BESS operation, grid integration, and optimization.

  • Proficiency in power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, PSCAD, etc...) and energy storage simulation tools.

  • Strong understanding of electrical power systems, grid operation, and regulatory requirements related to battery energy storage deployment (e.g., FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547).

  • Experience in project management, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification preferred.

  • Ability to adapt to dynamic project requirements, prioritize tasks, and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.

  • Commitment to safety, quality, and sustainability in BESS engineering and project execution.

  • Effective written and verbal English communication skills

  • Ability to work, analyze, troubleshoot, and prioritize problems independently.

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills to work with others in all situations.

  • Proficiency and knowledgeable in office practices, procedures, and equipment

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and coordinate with partners.

Compensation Range:

$107,421.00 - $143,228.00
