This role has a hybrid work schedule ( 2 days onsite) and we will only consider candidates based in Portsmouth, NH, Boston, MA and Plano, TX.
Job introduction:
The LIFTED Shared Services organization is on the lookout for a talented and driven Senior Backend Engineer to join our dynamic Reusify team. Our products are expertly developed with a focus on reusability, providing efficient, and cost-effective access to crucial data for our business partners throughout Liberty Mutual, enabling them to sell and service insurance effectively. With over 100 active customers and exceeding 90 million API calls per quarter, our work has a significant impact on the organization.
This role is integral to our squad aligned with Vehicle & Driver, Compliance & Credit, and platform portfolios. You will be at the forefront of API development, focusing on designing, implementing, and modifying RESTful and event-driven APIs that integrate seamlessly with our platform components. Leveraging your technical expertise, you will tackle complex technical challenges and deliver robust solutions that meet the diverse needs of our stakeholders.
In this position, you will be part of a mature Agile development team responsible for analyzing requirements, developing high-quality APIs, and ensuring that they adhere to best practices in API design and security. You will have the opportunity to participate in the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design through testing, deployment, and ongoing support. Your role will also include mentoring junior team members, sharing your knowledge and best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
About the job:

  • Design, develop, and enhance high-performance APIs and platform components using modern technologies such as TypeScript and NodeJS.
  • Utilize core AWS services, including CDK, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, EventBridge, and S3, to build scalable and efficient solutions.
  • Implement observability and monitoring solutions using tools like Splunk and DataDog to ensure the reliability and performance of our APIs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define API specifications and integration points, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Employ DevOps practices with the Git Suite and GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipeline automation to enhance deployment speed and reliability.
  • Support enterprise-wide applications by providing production support and troubleshooting production issues to maintain service availability.
  • Demonstrate a forward-thinking mindset by proactively identifying areas for performance, quality, and efficiency improvements within our API ecosystem.
  • Develop comprehensive technical documentation, including API specifications, usage guidelines, and architectural diagrams, to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding of new team members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor`s or Master`s degree in technical discipline or equivalent experience, technical degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of Backend Engineering experience.
  • Extensive experience in API development, particularly in building and consuming RESTful and event-driven APIs.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript and NodeJS, with a strong understanding of API design principles and security best practices.
  • Solid experience with core AWS service components (CDK, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, EventBridge, S3, Fargate, etc.).
  • DevOps experience creating and managing automated CI/CD pipelines (bonus for experience utilizing the Git Suite and GitHub Actions).
  • Proven experience in supporting enterprise applications and providing production support, with a focus on operational excellence.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage end-to-end software product development and address complex system-level issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working with technical and business stakeholders.
