Job Summary
We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to lead the development of integrations, automation workflows, and internal services that support our real estate platform. You'll own backend systems end-to-end from architecture and implementation to observability and scaling. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in high-autonomy environments and enjoy solving real-world problems through clean, performant code.
ResponsibilitiesDesign and build robust backend services that integrate internal systems and third-party APIs to support branding, content, and research workflows.
Lead system architecture decisions for new internal tools and utilities, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Develop automation pipelines for tasks like asset delivery, PDF report generation, data synchronization, and marketing material creation.
Own API development end-to-end, including design, documentation, monitoring, and performance tuning.
Collaborate cross-functionally with content, branding, and research teams to understand needs and deliver backend solutions that unlock operational efficiency.
Ensure code quality and security, writing clean, well-tested code with clear documentation and thoughtful error handling.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, sharing knowledge and promoting best practices through code reviews and technical discussions.
Drive observability and resilience, setting up logging, monitoring, and alerting for the services you own.
Stay ahead of backend trends, continuously evaluating and introducing tools or patterns that improve development velocity and system performance.
Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, and solid working knowledge of Python
Proven ability to design and build RESTful APIs and work with third-party API integrations
Hands-on experience with Node.js frameworks such as Fastify, Hono, or Express
Solid background working with PostgreSQL, including schema design and performance tuning
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, logging, monitoring, and debugging production services
Strong skills in system design and backend architecture
Experience building automation workflows (e.g., with tools like n8n or similar)
Excellent English communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Comfortable working in a remote, async-first environment with at least 4 hours of overlap with US Eastern Time
We’ll prioritize candidates with strong AWS experience. If you’ve mostly worked with Azure, that’s still welcome — we’re happy to support ramp-up time.
If you’re applying to a variant of the role that involves some frontend work: experience with React or Vue is great, and we’re open to candidates willing to learn Svelte on the job.
We’re targeting backend-leaning full-stack engineers, candidates should have enough frontend experience to confidently build UI-facing features and support backend-driven automation that integrates with the frontend, including AI-assisted workflows.
