The Opportunity

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Akkio, you will play an essential role in architecting and building the robust server-side infrastructure that powers our AI-driven data analytics platform. You'll lead technical initiatives for scalable systems that handle large amounts of data and drive innovation in our core backend technologies to help our customers transform how they leverage data throughout the campaign lifecycle.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design and architecture of backend systems and APIs to support development of customer-facing AI agents.
  • Take full ownership of complex technical projects from planning to deployment
  • Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and marketing experts to create products that help media agencies achieve their goals
  • Build and maintain infrastructure for AI/ML model deployment and inference
  • Design and build highly scalable systems that handle large volumes of data processing and analysis
  • Drive improvements in system reliability, performance, and scalability to support our growing customer base
  • Implement security and compliance measures to protect sensitive client data
  • Mentor junior engineers and establish backend engineering best practices
  • Create and enforce software development standards, including code quality and testing
  • Optimize cloud resource utilization and cost-efficient infrastructure strategies
  • Communicate project milestones and progress clearly to stakeholders

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience with demonstrated ability to solve complex technical challenges
  • Experience building and debugging large scale systems and distributed architectures
  • Strong experience writing maintainable, testable, production-grade Python code
  • Deep understanding of REST APIs, database design, and complex system architectures
  • Strong background with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, and/or Azure) and modern DevOps practices
  • Understanding of data processing pipelines, data storage solutions, and analytics architectures
  • Experience with performance optimization and scalability challenges
  • Strong bias to execution coupled with high engineering standards and attention to detail
  • Interest in AI and machine learning (experience a plus, but not required)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)

Bonus Points:

  • Strong experience with large language models (LLMs) and their applications in data analytics
  • Knowledge of data visualization and analytics tools
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Understanding of security best practices for handling sensitive data
  • Previous startup experience, particularly in early-stage companies
  • Familiarity with frontend technologies and full-stack development

Additional Information

  • Location: Remote-first company with no central office location. This position is fully remote.
  • Compensation: Competitive salary range of $160,000-$240,000 depending on experience, plus substantial equity grants
  • Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) plan; generous PTO policy
  • Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the US
