The Senior Application Support Engineer provides technical expertise for web applications, ensuring smooth operation, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing performance using Microsoft technologies such as SQL Server and IIS.
StarCompliance is seeking a highly skilled, critical thinking Senior Application Support Engineer – SQL Specialist to join our expanding Client Support Services team. In this senior analyst position, you will primarily provide technical expertise for the level 2 application support team along with proactive application/database monitoring and issue resolution.
You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our web applications using your extensive knowledge of co-located and cloud environments and will be instrumental in driving operational excellence and delivering best-in-class client experience. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and previous experience of web application support using Microsoft technologies (IIS/MSSQL) and a proven track record of successful operation within technical teams in a fast-paced environment.
Client Support Services area an integral function within StarCompliance and work directly with Professional Services, Product, Relationship Management and Sales. Technical knowledge is paramount for this position alongside deep critical thinking and an ability to methodically assess, direct or resolve issues which may not have been encountered previously. Successful candidates will need to be passionate about the StarCompliance brand identity and understand the solutions that the company provides.
Key Responsibilities
- Web Application Support: Provide technical expertise and support for StarCompliance web applications, acting as the primary point of contact for highly technical issues undertaking troubleshooting and issue resolution.
- Microsoft SQL Expertise: Utilize deep knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and Profiler, to analyze, optimize, and troubleshoot database performance issues.
- Azure Environment Support: Collaborate with development and operations teams to support and monitor Azure environments, leveraging tools such as Application Insights for performance monitoring and proactive issue identification.
- IIS Management: Configure, monitor, and maintain Internet Information Services (IIS) to ensure optimal performance and reliability of web applications.
- Incident Management: Investigate and resolve complex technical incidents related to web application functionality, performance, and infrastructure components.
- Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Create and maintain technical documentation, guidelines, and best practices for web application support and troubleshooting processes.
- Leadership: Operate as a lead analyst to a team of likeminded technical analysts, providing guidance, mentoring, and technical expertise to ensure the team's success and professional growth.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including client services, infrastructure, and development, to ensure seamless integration and continuous improvement of web applications.
Required Skills, Knowledge/Experience
- Deep Technical Expertise: Extensive experience supporting web applications at a Windows server level, with a strong understanding of hosted application within IIS and Azure environments.
- Database Expertise: Strong understanding of Microsoft SQL (SSMS) and experience with database management and T-SQL querying including identifying and improving performance bottlenecks.
- Application Monitoring Experience: Proven experience implementing and utilizing application monitoring tools such as Application Insights (or similar) to capture and analyze application metrics, performance data, and error logs. Previous exposure to Kusto Query Language (KQL) experience is preferred.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Proven ability to independently analyze complex technical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner, leveraging application monitoring data.
- Strong Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Leadership Abilities: Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role, with the ability to motivate and guide a team of technical analysts.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively while managing multiple competing priorities.
