Actuaries on the Pricing & Risk Analytics Team are responsible for pricing new reinsurance opportunities, managing the profitability of existing deals, and seeking opportunities to improve returns on a risk-adjusted basis. We’re seeking talented, highly collaborative actuaries who are passionate about using their technical superpowers to deliver outstanding solutions in a fast-paced environment.
The Senior Actuarial Associate role will report to our lead PRT Actuary and offers a fantastic opportunity to combine traditional actuarial pricing and model development with hands-on predictive modeling. We are specifically seeking individuals who are passionate about the R programming language who want to advance their technical skills to the next level. This role requires an individual who both excels at working on a team and can independently drive specifics tasks to completion.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Key contributor performing actuarial analysis of PRT cases including reviewing plan features, analyzing mortality experience data, and maintaining open source projection models.
- Conduct experience studies on plan-specific data and utilize both traditional and predictive modeling techniques to recommend sound assumptions.
- Produce detailed written reports for management summarizing key assumptions, processes, controls, results, and pricing recommendations.
- Implement improvements to pricing and projection models while adhering to the company’s change management standards.
- Assist in new case onboarding including, but not limited to, hand-offs to the modeling and valuation teams, premium true-ups, and tracking of historical case metrics.
- Enhance pricing models and analytical tools by developing efficient, scalable R code and automation pipelines.
- Independently design and execute predictive modeling and advanced analytics projects to refine assumptions and quantify key risks.
- Support indicative pricing exercises through sensitivity testing, scenario analysis, and evaluation of deal competitiveness.
- Ensure adherence to peer review, documentation, and model governance expectations to maintain high-quality technical work.
- Other duties as needed.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, business, or related field required
- Progress towards ASA designation (minimum 3+ exams completed)
- At least 3 years of relevant actuarial experience, preference to pricing experience and knowledge of annuity / pension products.
Required Skills
- Experience with open-source programming languages (e.g., R, Python)
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with actuarial modeling tools, with FIS Prophet preferred
- High degree of attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills
- Capable of summarizing and communicating complex topics clearly and succinctly
- Excellent organizational skills, proficient in managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- High ethical standards and integrity
Supervisory Responsibilities
- None (may mentor junior team members on specific tasks or projects)
Location and Travel
- Martello Re welcome applications from preferred locations of Charlotte, NC and Bermuda, or remote from U.S. Eastern or Central time zones where Martello Re operates.
