We are seeking a detail-oriented and versatile Senior Accountant to join our Finance & Accounting team. This role will support a wide range of accounting functions across inventory, leases, fixed assets, tax, and retail operations. While specific responsibilities may evolve, candidates should possess a strong foundation in general accounting principles and be prepared to contribute across multiple areas of the business. The Senior Accountant will have a highly visible role that works jointly with the Assistant Controller, Director of Finance, and VP of Finance. This is a hybrid role and candidates are expected to be in the office three days per week.
POTENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Retail Sales
- Audit monthly retail sales data and reconcile cash receipts by payment type.
Sales Tax & Property Tax Compliance
- Oversee monthly sales tax and annual property tax and payments in coordination with third-party providers.
- Support audits and regulatory filings, including business licenses and annual reports.
Fixed Assets
- Update and maintain the fixed asset register
Inventory Accounting
- Analyze monthly inventory stock adjustments and prepare related journal entries.
- Perform monthly cost and reserve analyses, including Cost of Goods Sold allocations.
- Maintain accurate records of in-transit inventory and prepare related journal entries.
Lease Accounting
- Maintain and reconcile lease data across systems.
- Review lease agreements for accurate accounting treatment and forecasting.
- Calculate and communicate variable rent payments.
- Coordinate tenant allowance documentation.
- Prepare monthly IFRS 16 journal entries.
Month-End Close
- Populate the external reporting package with GL account data.
- Assist with close procedures and ad hoc analyses.
Accruals
- Prepare sales commissions accruals and provide statements to sales reps.
- Prepare gift card liability accruals
As needed
- Conduct boutique audits and support internal/external audits.
- Provide technical accounting research and assist with accounting system upgrades.
COMPETENCIES:
- Strong understanding of US GAAP or IFRS principles.
- Advanced in Excel, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and work around deadlines.
- Highly motivated with positive mindset and willing to take on new projects.
DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 2+ years’ experience in accounting, finance, audit, or equivalent role (Big 4 firm, a plus)
- Prior experience with GL and ERP systems preferred (D365 or Blue Cherry, a plus)
