About the role

 

Providing a safe and secure workplace continues to be a top priority for Whinstone US. Our armed security guards are the first line of defense and further provide a safe environment for our employees.  

Creating a safe environment generally includes engaging in cooperation, displaying goodwill, maintaining order, controlling access, promoting, and enabling safe and secure behaviors, safeguarding assets, being aware of and enforcing rules and regulations, and deterring misconduct.   

In addition to the roles and responsibilities of our Security Officers, the Security Shift Lead oversees the security team members and daily security operations on the ground, reporting to the Site Security Manager. The Supervisor interacts personally with all Security Officers, working with Security Leads to resolve disputes and ensure the current training status of all Officers. The Supervisor understands the roles, responsibilities, and challenges of the daily security operations intimately and advises the Site Security Manager accordingly. 


Essential Functions

  • Plan, schedule, organize, and direct daily security operations
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with security personnel and cross-functional partners
  • Oversee security team activities and ensure appropriate interactions with visitors, vendors, and employees
  • Monitor and ensure proper use of CCTV systems in compliance with policies and regulations
  • Train and onboard new security officers, including patrol procedures and emergency response protocols
  • Develop schedules, training materials, and complete timesheets; provide coaching and administer discipline as needed
  • Track certifications, training completion, and expiration dates for all security staff
  • Oversee intake, inventory, and disposition of personal property and evidence in accordance with policy
  • Review daily activity logs and incident reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Enforce safety and security procedures, including site-specific and emergency response protocols
  • Identify and report security violations, hazards, and property damage
  • Conduct patrols (vehicle and/or foot) to prevent incidents and protect people and property
  • Monitor and control site access, including vehicles and personnel
  • Respond to alarms and incidents, assess situations, and take appropriate action
  • Provide assistance to individuals and apply verbal de-escalation techniques when needed
  • Observe and respond to incidents including safety hazards, criminal activity, suspicious behavior, and policy violations
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to assess situations quickly and act appropriately
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve problems in a timely and effective manner
  • Solid judgment and critical thinking in high-pressure situations
  • Tactical and operational knowledge of incident response and security protocols
  • Excellent surveillance and observation skills
  • Proficiency with security technology and surveillance systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing
  • Ability to train, mentor, and lead security personnel
  • Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and self-defense practices
  • Ability to act as a peer advocate or representative in disciplinary or remediation situations

Education and Experience 

  • DPS Level III or IV license required upon hire
  • Bachelor’s degree or minimum of 5 years of experience in security, law enforcement, military, or related management roles
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification required
  • Must maintain weapons proficiency
  • FEMA ICS-100 and IS-906 certifications preferred
  • APP or CPP certification preferred
