APPLICATION DEADLINE: We encourage you to apply soon if interested, this role will be taken offline based on applicant volume.

Who We Are

M-Files is the leading platform for AI-native information management. Its metadata-driven architecture, embedded workflow engine and built-in AI (including the Aino assistant) let customers find information faster, automate business processes, and strengthen security and compliance, without moving content out of the systems where it already lives.

Headquartered in Finland with teams worldwide, M-Files is investing in the next phase of the platform: agentic AI, intelligent metadata and process automation, and open integration with the wider enterprise AI ecosystem. As a Sales Engineer, you help shape how customers adopt that future.

Summary of the role

Reporting to the Manager, Sales Engineering, you are the technical authority in the sales cycle: a curious, metric-driven problem solver who is equally at ease in a discovery call, a live build and a code editor. You will uncover customers' real business problems, design AI and automation solutions on the M-Files platform, and prove their value through tailored demos and proofs of concept. You will work closely with Sales, Services, Product and Engineering to turn what you learn from customers into wins and into a better product.

What you will be doing

Pre-sales and discovery

  • Partner with Account Executives to run structured discovery, qualify opportunities and map customer pain points to measurable business outcomes.
  • Script, configure and deliver value-driven demos tailored to the prospect's industry, data and processes.
  • Plan, run and close out proofs of concept (POCs) with clear success criteria, timelines and results.

AI and automation solutioning

  • Design and demonstrate AI-powered solutions on M-Files: intelligent metadata and classification, AI assistants, document and data extraction, workflow automation and agent-driven processes.
  • Build integrations and extensions using the M-Files APIs, connectors and low-code or scripted tooling, and connect M-Files to customers' systems such as CRM, ERP and collaboration tools.
  • Advise customers on responsible AI adoption: data quality, security, access control, governance and regulatory compliance.
  • Explain how AI features work, where their limits are, and how they fit the customer's architecture, answering technical objections with confidence and honesty.

Technical consultation

  • Document technical requirements, integration needs and proposed solution designs with the M-Files Services and implementation teams for a smooth hand-off.
  • Provide technical thought leadership through workshops, webinars, solution briefs and reusable demo assets.

Relationships and sales support

  • Build trusted-advisor relationships with technical and business stakeholders, and enjoy solving their problems directly with them.
  • Help advance deals, convert prospects and identify expansion and upsell opportunities with existing customers.
  • Share customer insights, competitive intelligence and feature gaps with Product and Engineering to influence the roadmap.

Operate with data

  • Track and report your own pipeline influence, POC outcomes and demo effectiveness, and use the numbers to improve how you work.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience is valued.
  • 3+ years in a pre-sales, solution consulting or technical consulting role supporting complex software sales cycles, ideally enterprise SaaS, content services, workflow or automation.
  • Working programming knowledge: comfortable reading and writing code in languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript or C#, and working with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks and SQL.
  • Practical understanding of modern AI: large language models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt design, AI agents and tool use, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar integration standards, plus clear views on accuracy, hallucination risk, data privacy and AI governance.
  • Experience with automation and integration platforms and patterns (workflow engines, iPaaS or low-code tools, event-driven integrations).
  • Metric-driven: you set goals, track results such as POC win rate, demo-to-opportunity conversion and sales cycle impact, and adjust based on evidence.
  • A natural problem solver and lifelong learner who keeps up with the fast-moving AI landscape and likes to experiment with new tools.
  • A genuine enjoyment of talking with customers, asking good questions and solving their problems with M-Files products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to turn complex technical concepts into clear, compelling messages for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

  • Experience with document management, enterprise content management (ECM), metadata-driven or intelligent document processing solutions.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Teams, Salesforce, SAP or other systems M-Files commonly integrates with.
  • Knowledge of information security and compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001, GDPR and SOC 2, and of regulated industries like life sciences, manufacturing, financial services or the public sector.
  • Cloud and architecture knowledge (Azure, AWS, identity and access management, APIs).
  • Experience building AI-powered prototypes, agents or automations, or contributing to internal tools or open source projects.

Benefits

  • 10 paid holidays annually
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Matching 401K Plan (25% of employee's contribution up to the IRS max)
  • Health insurance (PPO and HDHP/HSA plans offered)
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Life insurance (1x employee salary)
  • Short-term disability (employer paid)
  • Long-term disability (employer paid)
  • Flexible Spending Plan (medical and dependent)
  • As remote enabled company our employees enjoy the flexibility to establish their own life/work balance
